Y seguimos aquí, honoring Victor López Jr. — a dedicated public servant and community leader in Waterbury. Victor has served as the Executive Director of the Hispanic Coalition of Greater Waterbury since 2014,
Although he is not seeking re-election this year, Victor's legacy is one of unity, compassion, and unwavering commitment to his community. His leadership has left an indelible mark on Waterbury, fostering a sense of belonging and pride among its residents.
Siempre juntos ✨
Next up for #HispanicHeritageMonth we celebrate the unstoppable Rep. Hilda E. Santiago— a history-maker, a fighter, and a voice for our comunidad!
From Naranjito 🇵🇷 to Meriden 🇺🇸, Hilda has never stopped breaking barriers.
As a founding member of the CT Hispanic Democratic Caucus, Hilda continues to open doors for the next generation of leaders while standing firm for civil rights, human rights, and Latino equality.
Her story is OUR story. Her victories are OUR victories.
Siempre juntos.
Hispanic Heritage Month continues and we continue to bring to the forefront CT leaders from across the state. Today we honor Abelardo Abram King — founder and Editor-in-Chief of La Voz Hispana, first launched in 1993 in New Haven by Abelardo King with a handful of volunteers,
and later expanded statewide in partnership with Norma Rodríguez.
He was just honored by West Haven Mayor Dorinda Borer as the city’s Hispanic American of the Year, recognizing his decades of service amplifying Latino voices and building community through journalism.
This #HispanicHeritageMonth, we honor Evelyn Mantilla — a pioneer in Connecticut history. Born in Caguas, Puerto Rico and raised in Hartford, Evelyn made history in 1997 as the first openly LGBTQIA+ state representative in Connecticut,
Today, Evelyn continues her legacy of service as the Executive Director of ITNCentralCT, supporting seniors and the visually impaired with accessible transportation.
Yolanda Castillo, founder of the CT Hispanic Democratic Caucus and trailblazer in Connecticut politics, reminds us why representation matters. From her work with the Department of Rehabilitation Services to being the first Puerto Rican woman on Manchester’s Board of Directors,
and leading the Commission on Equity & Opportunities — Yolanda has spent her career lifting up voices that too often go unheard. As we observe Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15), let’s celebrate our roots, our leaders, and our future.
The Connecticut Hispanic Democratic Caucus reaffirms our solidarity with immigrants and allies across our state. Together, we rise against hate.

🚨 We stand with Rep. Corey Paris and with our immigrant communities.
The threats and intimidation he has faced are unacceptable. No public servant—or community member—should ever be targeted for standing up for safety, dignity, and justice.
