In his keynote at the 26th Extraordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU) on the Strengthening of Mechanisms for Conflict Prevention & Resolution in Africa taking place in Luanda, the Republic of #Angola, the Chairperson of the AU Commission, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf @ymahmoudali observed that Africa’s peace & security environment is facing increasingly complex challenges, from the expansion of terrorism & violent extremism to internal crises, interstate tensions & external shocks.

“Are we equipped to confront these challenges with the strategies, mechanisms & resources currently available? Is the African Peace and Security Architecture adapted to these circumstances?” he posed.

If not, the Chairperson stressed, Africa must urgently advance reforms.

He called for stronger prevention & early warning, including high-level political engagement at the earliest signs of crisis; better coordination between the AU Commission, the Peace & Security Council (PS), Member States & Regional Economic Communities (RECs); & a holistic approach to combating #terrorism, noting that “a purely security-based response has shown its limitations.”

Firmness against unconstitutional changes of government, he underlined, must remain essential, while also going hand in hand with dialogue.

The Chairperson further stressed that financing Africa’s peace agenda & the goal of #SilencingTheGuns by 2030 can no longer depend primarily on external resources. He called for a strengthened AU Peace Fund & renewed support for UNSC Resolution 2719.

“Political will remains the cornerstone of our collective efforts.” he said.

The way forward, he concluded, must be guided by prevention, coordination, sustainable financing, accountability & effective monitoring & evaluation.
Greater vigilance, solidarity & preparedness are essential as Africa navigates an increasingly turbulent geopolitical environment.

Convened under the leadership of H.E João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola & AU Champion for Peace & Reconciliation in Africa, the Executive Council which precede tomorrow's Summit will provide an opportunity for Heads of State & Government to undertake a strategic assessment of the effectiveness of existing continental mechanisms for conflict prevention and resolution.

It will also reaffirm African ownership of the governance, peace & security agendas, & the importance of adherence to the principles & tenets of the Constitutive Act of the AU.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Prof. dr. Amon Murwira, yesterday received a courtesy call from Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) President Mr Nqobile Magwizi and his delegation at the Munhumutapa Offices.

The meeting provided an opportunity for ZIFA to express its appreciation to the Ministry and Zimbabwe’s diplomatic missions for the support extended to national teams and athletes during international competitions.

Mr Magwizi commended Zimbabwean ambassadors and embassy staff for ensuring that the country’s delegations received a warm welcome and the necessary assistance while competing abroad. He cited the recent Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Morocco, where the Zimbabwean delegation was supported by the country’s diplomatic mission, as well as similar assistance received in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United States.

“We are grateful at ZIFA, and this visit really was a courtesy visit just to express our gratitude and our desire to see the same culture and practice being perpetuated going into the future,” Mr Magwizi said.

He said the partnership between ZIFA and the Ministry would become increasingly important as Zimbabwean teams prepare for a busy international calendar. Among the upcoming engagements is the Under-15 team’s participation in the Under-15 World Cup in Azerbaijan in October.

Mr Magwizi said ZIFA would continue working closely with the Ministry to ensure that the movement and welfare of Zimbabwean teams abroad were well coordinated.

The engagement underscored the important role of sport, particularly football, in projecting a positive image of Zimbabwe internationally. Through the collaboration between sporting institutions and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Zimbabwe continues to strengthen its national identity and uphold the values of **integrity, dignity and prosperity**, in line with President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s vision of projecting a positive Zimbabwean identity wherever the country is represented.

The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment of ZIFA and the Ministry to ensuring that Zimbabwe’s participation on the international sporting stage contributes positively to the country’s image and strengthens Zimbabwe’s diplomatic footprint.

Zimbabwe and South Africa have reaffirmed their enduring bonds of friendship, unity and cooperation, with the two countries pledging to deepen their strategic partnership in pursuit of shared prosperity.

Co-chairing the Ministerial Meeting of the 4th Session of the Zimbabwe-South Africa Bi-National Commission, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade said the two countries will leverage their historic ties to boost industrial cooperation, trade and tourism, while strengthening collaboration in education, science, technology, innovation and culture.

Emphasising the deep bonds between the two nations, the Minister declared that Zimbabwe and South Africa “will not be divided”, stressing that the two countries are united by their shared history, cultural ties and common aspirations.

With bilateral trade already exceeding US$5 billion, the two sides are determined to unlock greater economic opportunities and advance regional integration in line with SADC Vision 2050 and the African Union’s Agenda 2063.

This Monday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Prof. dr. Amon Murwira, held bilateral talks with his Serbian counterpart, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Marko Đurić, in Belgrade, marking a new chapter in relations between the two countries as both sides committed to transforming their longstanding friendship into a more structured strategic partnership

The ministers agreed to establish a Joint Permanent Commission on Cooperation, which will provide a framework for expanding collaboration in trade, investment, agriculture, education, science and technology, tourism, arts and culture, as well as other areas of mutual interest. They also witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements between their foreign ministries and diplomatic academies, further strengthening institutional ties.

Prof. Murwira announced that, under the direction of His Excellency President Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe will re-establish its permanent diplomatic mission in Belgrade next year, reflecting the strategic importance Zimbabwe attaches to its relations with Serbia. The move is expected to deepen political engagement while creating new opportunities for business, investment, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.

During the talks, Minister Đurić conveyed an invitation from H.E. President Aleksandar Vučić to His Excellency President Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa to undertake an official visit to Serbia. He also invited Zimbabwe to participate at a high level in the commemoration of the 65th Anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement in Belgrade and welcomed Zimbabwe's confirmed participation at Expo 2027 Belgrade.

Both ministers reaffirmed their shared commitment to sovereignty, territorial integrity, international law, peaceful coexistence and non-interference in the internal affairs of states, while expressing confidence that the strengthened partnership will deliver tangible economic and diplomatic benefits for the peoples of Zimbabwe and Serbia.

This Friday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Prof. dr. Amon Murwira, joined his counterparts from across the Southern African Development Community (SADC) at the 28th Ministerial Committee of the Organ (MCO) on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation in Salima, Republic of Malawi.

The Ministerial Committee convened to deliberate on regional peace, security and stability, the cornerstone of SADC integration and sustainable development.

Wiserow Enterprises General Manager, Mr Bruce James Meikle, said the company exported 597 tonnes of premium-quality blueberries to European and Middle Eastern markets last year, generating approximately US$2 million in revenue. Wiserow is targeting 900 tonnes of exports this year, with Europe remaining its primary market while also exploring opportunities in China. He added that expansion plans will see production increase from 72 hectares to 125 hectares, raising annual output to approximately 2,500 tonnes once fully developed. About 5% of production is supplied to the local market, with the remainder exported to meet strong international demand.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has arrested Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma, in Kensington, Johannesburg, following an intensive operation involving the SAPS Interpol National Central Bureau, Crime Intelligence and the Organised Crime Investigation Unit.

Tshuma is wanted by authorities in the United Kingdom in connection with the murder of his wife, Nothabo Zandile Tshuma (42), and their two daughters, Natalie (15) and Nala (5), whose bodies were discovered at their home near Bedford.

Through swift operational coordination and intelligence-led policing, SAPS members successfully traced and arrested the fugitive today.

The Acting National Commissioner of the South African Police Service, Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, has commended all members involved in the operation for their swift and coordinated response.

"This arrest demonstrates that South Africa is not a safe haven for fugitives. Anyone who believes they can evade justice by fleeing to our country should know that SAPS will work tirelessly with international law enforcement partners to trace, locate and arrest them," said Lieutenant General Dimpane.

The suspect will appear in court on Monday. ML
