Educational Workers @UVic : 1500 TAs, Sessional Lecturers, Second Language Instructors, Residence Life Workers, & Cultural Assistants—We tweet to inform members
“This is the first ever snapshot of the use of contract positions at Canadian universities…they now account for more than half of all faculty appointments, and that has been the case for about the last decade.” Listen to @ChandraPasma discuss findings: https://t.co/qhtAc4ZOkC
@JoyfulSisyphean @olddavethewolf Hey folks, if you have an issue you think the union should be addressing, it's best to contact us directly - [email protected] - we don't spend much time on twitter.
Just about missed the top-most sign ("Spy master Tam") in this VicNews pic from today's Victoria "freedom" convoy. So nice to see the Ottawa occupation doesn't have a monopoly on racists. #TruckersForFreedom2022
"Nobody wants to be on strike, but at the same time, here we are. And why? Because they're greedy as hell, and it's time to stop taking it." -Alto Byrd III
ICYMI: AUW members at GM went on #strike yesterday for the first time in 12 years!

@BootsRiley Sessional & music performance instructors in @CUPE4163 at #UVic gave a 92% strike vote. They teach 30% of students w/a heavy workload but less health benefits, no job security, & very little severance pay - like many uni profs on contracts in CAN/the US.

"For the most part, these are insecure, unsupported positions with little job security and few protections for academic freedom..."

Lecturers like me at @UofNH haven't gotten even cost of living raises since 2016. We want a fair contract that keeps our school attractive to prospective faculty and offers some job security to loyal lecturers.

"The privilege of tenure used to confer academic freedom through job security. By now, decades of adjunctification have made the professoriate fearful, insular, and conformist." https://t.co/PU5N9SCFGY #CHEarchive
I have cancer surgery scheduled later this month, so I have to miss the first two weeks of class. Rather than providing me with a sub, the university is proposing to remove me from the class I designed and cutting my load (and paycheck) by 2/3rd.
Adjuncting sucks
Happy Labour Day! Since 1894 we’ve celebrated and taken time to acknowledge workers’ rights. Let’s continue to celebrate what we’ve won and remember that we got those rights by uniting and fighting! https://t.co/tcxUpnEe96
