Students are studying Yayoi Kusama in art class! PreK-2nd are creating Kusama inspired pumpkin patches and 3rd-5th are creating detailed Kusama pumpkins. Each student also painted a grade level pumpkin for display.

It’s almost Dot Day! Students are creating their dots for International Dot Day, which is celebrated on Sept. 15th. We read "The Dot" book which encouraged students to unleash their creativity and make their mark!

During field day, students added their handprints to a collaborative canvas. Since then, I added our bobcat mascot to the middle. The students will be so excited to see the finished product when they return to school!

I am thankful to have been able to attend this event and learn of the innovation taking place in our region. During this, I had the opportunity to present on a panel of how I implemented a grant I received from ASU's Public School Partnership Program.
Yesterday, the Office of Partnerships and Engagement hosted the fourth annual Innovation Expo, bringing together educators from App State's Public School Partnership, college faculty and staff, and community partners around the theme of "Recruit, Invest, Retain, Innovate!"

Dr. Seuss / Read Across America Week was a success! In art, we studied Dr. Seuss’ illustrations and learned of his topsy-turvy art style. Students then created their own Dr. Seuss worlds where anything was possible.

4th & 5th grade students have been learning and practicing one of the oldest forms of textile art, weaving. They are working to create their own woven art piece using vertical warp threads and horizontal weft threads.

MVES students recently learned about artist Piet Mondrian! PreK-1st focused on the primary colors and types of lines. 2nd-5th used base ten blocks to create Mondrian art that matched the value of a three-digit number.

MVES art students are creating leaf artwork in the style of artist Georgia O’Keeffe. A special focus is placed on shading to create value. Students are also learning how each part of a tree and leaf function.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! PreK and kinder students are making clay Christmas ornaments. PreK-5th students are working hard to create their designs for the Superintendent’s Christmas Card.

Students recently learned about NC Agriculture while participating in a Farm to School art competition. Each student created their own art piece which included drawings of plants and animals that can be found in NC.

Happy Memorial Day! Our clay poppies have been placed in various locations in the county. I plan to continue to use them to honor military members and bring awareness to the sacrifice made by fallen service members.
