Sharing my PhD manuscript was my last action on X 👋 This is not a place I want to support any longer. You can find me on @bluesky and @LinkedIn. See you there!
💡 My work contributes to the integration of macro- and micro-level research in conflict studies by explaining how the network structure conditions the behaviour of armed groups & vice versa. Curious to learn more? Check out the full manuscript: 📖 https://t.co/RJ9TjD1Jlg 5/5
🤔 In #Nigeria, conflicts between informal armed groups like #bandits & militias have been rising in the shadow of the Boko Haram insurgency. This led to the central question of my PhD: how do civil wars & local conflicts influence each other? 👇 https://t.co/RJ9TjD1Jlg 1/5
🔁 *Within* the civil war conflict zone, local conflicts are almost absent due to the massive disruption of everyday life and rebel governance. Importantly, these developments feed back into the civil war by overall strengthening the insurgents. 4/5
How do conflict parties react to #ceasefire *violations*? Conflict parties face an intricate decision-making problem because they have to safeguard their interests in the conflict & in a continuation of the ceasefire at the same time. See my full article https://t.co/P30KhIhnSu
🔔 We have an opening for a fully-funded PhD position in Security Politics!

Important thread on the misogyny to expect during the upcoming electoral campaigns. If you think misogyny is not a thing anymore or want to understand it better, I highly recommend reading Down Girl by @kate_manne

In 2023, almost all communal conflicts (95%) occurred in civil war contexts. @sebvanbaalen and I explain why this matters in our new blog ⬇️ @UCDP@CSS_ETHZurich
Violent conflicts over land & resources happen almost exclusively in civil war-affected areas. @CWiehler & @sebvanbaalen argue peacebuilders must involve civil war parties in conflict resolution — and even see them as potential conflict management partners

@nengakd @sebvanbaalen @UCDP@CSS_ETHZurich Well, this depends on how you define it. I'm aware that the notion of civil war is understood differently in Nigeria. We follow UCDP, and according to them, the Boko Haram conflict is a high-intensity intra-state conflict btw the gov and non-state groups over government control.
There is a somewhat mysterious correlation between my need to submit my PhD manuscript in June and the productivity rate of non-PhD publications these weeks 😅 🤞🏻
