Just a sense of how things are here in the NW Piedmont / Triad area.
The 2-3” of sleet from last weekend has been like concrete to get rid up.
Very cold air all week won’t let it melt. The limited melting during the day re-freezes and makes it more slick.
Many older folks are in neighborhoods that they can’t get out of for fear of falling or the roads are too icy to get traction on.
Main roads are fine but rural roads that weren’t cleared initially during the storm are still icy and the DOT equipment isn’t working to fix it.
Hearing some of the equipment is breaking when trying to rip the ice off the road. Then, when it does sometimes the asphalt is coming up too.
This is what nasty sleet and freezing rain can do.
There is a salt shortage and now we have another storm on the way for Saturday.
Thankfully, it’s a snow event, but it will still add stress.
Kids have been remote learning or out of school for a week. Prospects for next week not looking good either with winter lingering.
Be kind and check up on each other.
What a wild ride it is to see @GMengel@SCweather_wx and @EthanClarkWX get the growth and recognition they deserve. Been following these guys for years and have recommended them to many and to see them earn their due is phenomenal! Congrats gentlemen!
@TimBuckleyWX I appreciate you Tim! Seems like here recently there has been a riff between youtubers and tv station meteorologist. I appreciate what both of you do and often wish TV meteorologist had the same time allotment that youtubers have. I am happy to learn from both!
@SCweather_wx Was, now in central NC area, so will be traveling from there to the Mountains on Thursday! Excited to have a chance to see snow , but just seems like this one is kinda a “toss your hands up” type event and if I see something cool, if not, still time left in the winter!

@StephenIgoe With all the post season tournaments these days and seeing UAB and Tulane in a tournament, did ECU just decide to turn down post season play or was our resume just not enough to qualify for any opportunity?
