Solidarity to junior doctors who are out on strike over pay @BMA_JuniorDocs @HCSANews
While workload & waiting lists are at record highs, junior doctors’ pay has been cut by more than a 1/4 since 2008.
To protect the #NHS, the Govt must engage & address drs concerns asap
Junior Doctors have had a 26% pay cut over the last 15 years.
They're on strike to get their pay restored. That would cost less than HALF of the amount handed to the super-rich through the non-dom tax avoidance scheme.
Today I went to show my solidarity to the Junior Doctors.
@SteveBarclay@TheBMA@SkyNews Great to read you are still willing to negotiate. 35% is what it would take to restore our pay if it hadn’t been cut in be first place. We do believe we are worth this. But we are also realists and willing to negotiate #takeittothetable
Public sector workers deserve fair pay. Junior doctors deserve fair pay. In their first year as a doctor the pay is £14/hr based on a Monday to Friday working week of 40hours. We are paid additionally for any nights & weekends, but our pay for those 40hrs is £14/hr.
Junior doctors are striking for pay restoration. Junior doctors include every doctor from graduating medical school at university up until they become a Hospital Consultant or GP. We have had a real terms pay cut of 26.1% since 2008. Despite the covid pandemic.
It would take a # 35% increase on our current pay to restore it to where it would have been without the pay cut, which is why the BMA thinks this is a fair demand. The government offered us 5%. Despite clapping whilst we saved lives during the pandemic with our colleagues.
@GregKnight as MP for East Yorkshire I urge you to ask @SteveBarclay and colleagues to agree to meet @BMA_JuniorDocs and begin negotiations. So far he has failed to suggest any offer that would prevent the need for the #JuniorDoctorsStrike
Despite today’s wildly inflated figures from @SteveBarclay the full cost of paying junior doctors what they’re worth is just £1bn - a quarter of what the Government wasted on unusable PPE.

Dr Emma Runswick(British Medical Association) - "It would cost around £1b to increase junior doctors pay... the govt have written off 15x that on unusable, fraudulent PPE... Steve Barclay needs to stop the silly preconditions if he wants talks to take place"

Earlier today our JDC met with officials from the @DHSCgovuk – the Minister for Health did not turn up – but the talks came with 'no credible offer, nothing to negotiate, and no clear understanding of our demands'. We are left with no choice but to strike.

Just a reminder that we had a meeting today which @SteveBarclay failed to attend…
Without any credible negotiations we have no choice but to strike on Monday and continue our fight for #PayRestoration#JuniorDoctorsStrike
Thanks to this Government, junior doctors can now make more money serving coffee than saving patients.
From tomorrow we take #JuniorDoctorsStrike action so we’re paid what we’re worth.
