This was gifted to me today at the Monastery of Saint John the Theologian in Patmos.

It came to me through a man I originally met because of X, who has since become a dear family friend, and was placed in my hands by a hieromonk (both a monk and an ordained Orthodox priest) a man who has stepped away from the outside world and given his life to Christ.

I come and go on X. I question why I’m here, whether any of this matters, whether I should just disappear from it all.

And then days like today happen.

If you saw my previous post, you saw me talking about an icon I encountered inside the Cave of the Apocalypse: Christ depicted as the Ancient of Days, with white hair, as St. John describes Him in Revelation.

I couldn’t stop thinking about that icon.

Hours later, we’re driving back from the monastery and my wife opens the gift that had been given to us. I hear her quietly say:

“Oh look… he gifted you your favorite icon.”

I look over.

It’s the same icon.

Of all the icons he could have given me, without knowing what had moved me so deeply inside that cave, this was the one.

And then it gets stranger.

I got back to the hotel and went barefoot onto my balcony with the icon because I wanted to take this picture and share the story with you.

As I was about to take a step, my foot just stopped.

I can’t explain it better than that. I didn’t see anything. I didn’t consciously decide to stop. My foot simply didn’t come down.

I looked underneath it.

A broken piece of a wine glass.

A glass I had left outside last night had fallen over in the wind and shattered. Had I put my foot down, I would have stepped directly onto it.

Maybe you call all of this coincidence. Maybe I would have once too.

A friendship born from X that brings me to a monk on Patmos. An icon that stops me in a cave, only for that same icon to be unknowingly placed into my hands hours later. And then, while trying to photograph it, a step I somehow don’t take.

There are signs in this world. You just have to know how to follow them.

And maybe the real question isn’t whether God puts signs in front of us.

Maybe it’s how many He has put in front of us that we were too busy to see.

Ever since the darkness came and my legal battles begun, five years ago, God told me in my deepest of prayers in a small church unknown to me, after a very dark night to follow the signs if I lead a righteous life.

All my prayers have been answered.
My sentencing is coming up in a few weeks.

I’m free.

Follow the signs…
I see them now, you should as well.

The footage shows the pensioner standing in front of a bus on Croft Street, arguing with members of the public, security and officers… before ending up on the floor.
Police statement: “We are aware of a video circulating online which is causing concern. We are reviewing the footage to obtain the full facts and will take appropriate action.”

Federal reviewers found serious deficiencies in nearly 30% of the cases that they examined.
We found patients placed on the organ donation pathway who should have never been there.
We found cases where the donation process continued despite signs that patients were not appropriate organ donors.
We found repeated failures in clinical judgment, oversight, and patient safety. And we found that these problems continued even after the organization promised to correct them.

What these individuals are essentially arguing is that they, as human beings, can be subjected to unusually cruel treatment that strips away their rights based on entirely unscientific and illogical grounds. Not only do they prevent others from advocating for basic rights, but they also block us from learning from past mistakes—fearing that acknowledging those errors might expose the flaws in their original theories. We can trace their track records, and it is highly likely that they want to restrict future learning so they can arbitrarily restrict other people's rights the next time a similar opportunity arises.

Ultimately, what they want is a one-way street: they demand that their own rights remain untouchable while convincing themselves that unreasonably restricting your rights is a privilege they are inherently entitled to. In their minds, they belong to a higher social class, granting them the authority to strip away your rights over whims unsupported by facts, science, or logic. Ironically, by championing this authoritarian control, they are leaving the door wide open for their own rights to be stripped away at any moment—though they likely lack the foresight to realize it.

You should remind them that the only reason the government hasn't stripped away all of their rights entirely is because people like you are still fighting to protect them. For them to ask you to stop fighting is remarkably shortsighted.

Part of you might think, "Fine, if they don't want protection, let's just carve them out and only advocate for those who actually want freedom and liberty." But no—I'm just kidding. Freedom and liberty are for everyone, even for those who fail to understand their value.
