We should not be oblivious of the mischievous politics Peter Obi played about this Oyo kidnapping. He was reported to have indicted the President, claiming Gov. Seyi Makinde told him the President stopped working on securing the release of the children.

This release negates that narrative. It speaks to one major point. Where do we draw the line between patriotism and politics? Why should every calamity be used as a means to secure votes for oneself?

I remember the US presidential election after 9/11 between George W. Bush and John Kerry. If you watch the videos and the campaigns back then, never at any point did John Kerry use the 9/11 attack to seek votes. They were all on the same page on how to capture Osama Bin Laden whether dead or alive.

Why is Nigeria different? Peter Obi's supporters should also do better. They should tell him to tone down the divisive rhetoric. It does not help anyone. Even if he eventually wins, he will be ruling a fragmented society that will eventually see him fail.

Mr. Peter Obi should learn the difference between Politics and Patriotism. It does not seem he knows it.

Updated: In the course of the rescue operation, eight of the kidnappers were arrested and are now in DSS custody, while some of them were neutralised.

There was no quid pro quo in the rescue as one of the terrorists, a kingpin, that the kidnappers demanded his release, is being prosecuted for his atrocities.
