I’ve spent the last 20+ years building cabinets — and making every mistake you can think of.
This week, I’m flying across the country to help another cabinet maker avoid those same mistakes.
Nothing beats watching the lessons I learned the hard way help someone else grow their business.
@scottastronaut This is how I would figure out overlay.
13” + 1/8” (gap in between) + 13” = 26 1/8”
26 1/8”-25 (frame opening) =1 1/8”.
1 1/8” divided by 2 = 9/16” overlay.
I would use soft close compact hinges.
Blum or Salice are good brands
@scottastronaut Those longarm hinges typically get mounted to the actual box (behind the frame). You will need to either: build out the hinge area of the box flush with the frame or purchase compact hinges. If you post opening sizes and door sizes, I can help with overlay amount.
Out of this salesperson onboarding pic with 9 people, how many do you think made it the first 2 weeks?
Hint: More than 1 and less than 3.
Its my fault entirely. I am super strict on cabinet knowledge and outbound sales capabilities.
The people who made it are already killing it!
Our Sales Director just onboarded 9 new Cabinet Experts to our sales team.

Big policy changes coming October 1st: imported cabinets face a 50% tariff. For American shops, this is a moment to expand, capture market share, and lead. We’re here to help shops put the right sales + operations systems in place so they can scale during this opportunity.
