“The cost of clearing your goods at Tema Harbour is ridiculous.”

— A Ghanaian man who recently returned from the UK after several years shared his experience clearing his cargo at Tema Harbour. He claimed he saw far more Chinese vehicles being imported than usual and was told they are easier to clear through the port than other imports. He also observed that imports significantly outnumber exports at the port.

According to him, several excavators had been seized by the government as part of the crackdown on illegal mining (galamsey). He further said he was surprised not to see any sniffer dogs at the port and claimed that, when he asked why, he was told officials rely on intelligence and tip-offs rather than canine detection.
