One of the biggest problems in men's health?

Most men don't have a milestone that gets them plugged into the healthcare system early and preventatively.

Women have annual gynecologic visits. When my mother made me see a gynecologist as a teenager, I can assure you I was not looking forward to it. But it got me connected to healthcare early. We had simple conversations about women's health before there was ever a problem to solve.
And that's a good thing.

Between contraception discussions, pregnancy, postpartum care, and menopause, women have built-in checkpoints throughout life. We still have a long way to go when it comes to improving women's healthcare, but at least those touchpoints exist.

Men? Many don't see a doctor for years.

In fact, for a lot of men, the first time they engage with the healthcare system as adults is for prostate cancer screening.

And listen, I'm all for prostate cancer screening.
But the first time we meet a man as an adult should not be when we put a finger up his butt.

We need better milestones.
We need Well Man visits.
Conversations about sleep, stress, exercise, nutrition, sexual health, fertility, testosterone, blood pressure, and metabolic health should happen decades earlier—before there's a crisis.

Prevention shouldn't start at 50.

In a powerful session at #AUASummit26, Jerome Wilson showed how both urban and rural communities face the same access crisis, one shaped by systems, distance, and delay.

From Chicago’s West Side to Pulaski, IL, he illustrated how miles turn into missed diagnoses, and how families like his own pay the price.

His call to action: digital‑first triage, team‑based care, telehealth access, workforce incentives, and infrastructure investment to close the gap for good.
