Was the only downfall of TAG the cheap slab material? People love the AI grading? Love the look of the slab? Couldn’t TAG just get better plastic like PSA or CGC and start being popular again?
Hot take about the Pokemon / Excell Brands acquisition:
At the end of the day Pokemon and distribution do not decide prices of Pokemon product, the market does. When I started selling I was lucky to make 0.25 a pack, in fact I was told 0.25 was the goal. “Sell packs and make a quarter, sell a box and make five bucks, do it at volume and that’s how you succeed” that’s what I was told when I started selling. But the market back then only wanted to pay $3 a pack, and that was because we were paying 2.75ish from distribution and everyone was making Pennies.
This acquisition will in no way make prices lower. In fact, it is my opinion that the market comes down when LGS’s get product, not big box, so if anything I think this is just a play by TPCI to capture more of the market. What’s more believable 1) Pokémon cares about prices and wants everyone to buy packs at a lower price or 2) the multibillion dollar company wants to capture more market share and be able to sell its own product at full market and make more money?
Just my two cents. Don’t see much changing.
Let me know your thoughts!
@MineTrainSmoker@eBay I’ve never used promotion at all, but I’ve noticed on auctions eBay must organically just push it out in the last 24 hours because my views always jump like 10x at the end.
@Therealmeglapus@SakurasCardShop Because no one in any industry would refund more than what was paid! Ever! Also, people who bought the boxes could just sell the packs, and still have the option to rip themselves. Perfectly reasonable refund and crazy anyone is complaining about this!
@TiamatRuler@eddie_peck I know plenty of shops that sell to their regulars at MSRP or below. The point of a shop selling at market is so that some random doesn’t come in and buy to flip. But, obviously tcg player can’t track those sales.
@pray4goodpulls Also, barely ever lucrative! Unless those cases are loaded they are losing money on not only opening product but also paying someone to open and list all the cards. Isn’t that what the people want? For shops to lose money?
“EvErYoNe LiKeS gOlDs NoW” yea have you seen these new ones? I’ve always been a fan of the gold Pokemon, like Charizard, but the energies and stadiums felt a little lame! These new golds are sick, and everyone should like them!
@BestPokemonDeal Yea I think so too! But stadium and energy cards don’t hit the same as the Pokemon themselves! Plus these new golds are just way sicker! The monochrome thing is working!
I’m seeing a lot of rip n shippers offer bounties again. I always thought bounties were a way to increase sales when things were slow. Either people are saving for mega in a few weeks or buying is just slowing down.
