Right now, Indigenous sovereignty and the right to self-determination are under attack. The provincial and federal government have introduced sweeping legislation that threatens treaty rights, overrides environmental and social protections, and puts our shared future in peril.
On National Indigenous Peoples Day, we honour and celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, and enduring contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples across Turtle Island.
In a settler nation like Canada, solidarity must mean action. #NIPD2025
Today, we mourn. Tomorrow, we rise.
#Bill5 just passed in Ontario.
✅ The Endangered Species Act? Repealed.
✅ Environmental assessments? Gone.
✅ Indigenous consent? Ignored.
✅ Public input? Erased.
And @fordnation? He didn’t even bother to show up for the vote.

Indigenous land defenders are leading the fight to protect lands and waters from Bill 5. Today mothers from Grassy Narrows were removed from the legislature today trying to send their message that their lands and rights will not be trampled #StopBill5#TreatiesOverBill5
BREAKING: Ford's Conservatives have rammed through Bill 5, which is a direct threat to our ecosystems & our democracy, without any form of consultation from Indigenous communities or respect for treaty rights.
And the Premier couldn't even show up.
Shameful. #onpoli
“We come here and speak the truth. Debwewin: the truth, is one of our most important teachings. But yet that house does not allow it. Sol [Mamakwa] messaged me to let me know that they sat late into the evening last night, and the majority government, Conservatives, basically threw all the rules at them, amended the rules, so that very little debate could go on and they could push this [Bill 5] through. As a result, it looks like it’s going to be passed tomorrow afternoon… I want you to think about that as we go into the discussion on Bill 5 and I question whether we even want [Minister] Rickford in this room. But if we do, I ask one thing - that we make him hold an eagle feather when he speaks. We tell him that our rules is you speak the truth,” says Lake Huron Regional Chief Scott McLeod on Day 1 of the Anishinabek Nation Grand Council Assembly. #ANGCA25
What in the fresh hell?!?
We need cash not cops!
We need a government that cares, supports & respects public education not one determined to micromanage it into the ground

Ted Nolan remembers being young and asking his mother why she never taught them to speak Ojibwe, and how she said the residential schools would beat those who spoke the language, or even nail their tongues to a board. He remembers she cried.
Nolan: “When people say ‘Just get over it,’ I mean, how the heck do you just get over that? It’s going to take a little while. It’s going to take a lot of patience.”
A lovely profile of a wonderful man.

An almost 10% hike in the College of Early Childhood Educators’ annual registration fee is unacceptable. RECEs are a mostly female, low-income workforce who must pay this fee to work in the profession they love.

Shifting @Sflecce from Min of Ed does not absolve him of the death of Landyn Ferris. The death at minimum in part attributable to the Min sitting for 2 years on his own Ministry report on standards for special education.
Congratulations to Team Ontario for winning GOLD by a score of 3-0 against Team Alberta in the female division at the 2024 National Aboriginal Hockey Championship!
