Porsche is cooking up something serious.
The German marque has confirmed development of an all-new mid-engine supercar platform that will sit above the legendary 911, with the potential to become the spiritual successor to the mighty 918 Spyder. In other words, Porsche may be preparing to unleash another hypercar.
Porsche first teased its next-generation hypercar ambitions with the all-electric Mission X concept in 2023. However, plans have since shifted under the company’s new “Sportwagenschmiede ’35” strategy, and the next chapter now has a new name: Mission S.
Porsche has already dropped a teaser across its social media channels, confirming that the Mission S concept will make its full debut on October 15.
And the really interesting part? Industry reports suggest Porsche is developing a bespoke flat-eight gasoline engine specifically for the project. A pure internal-combustion setup remains possible, but a plug-in hybrid configuration appears to be the more likely route, potentially combining the character of a high-revving flat-eight with electric assistance for serious performance.
Most importantly, this is not expected to be a parts-bin special. Porsche is reportedly developing the powertrain entirely in-house, rather than borrowing an existing engine from Volkswagen Group siblings such as Lamborghini or Audi.
If the Mission S delivers on those ambitions, Porsche could be about to add another monster to its history of legendary supercars.
October 15. Mark the date. 🏁🇩🇪
