SEALING THE DEAL
With deadline day approaching, if the funding committed by @ABarrMLA to a new Big Bash team was equaled for football, it could be the difference in locking down the investment needed to seal the A-League deal and saving @CanberraUnited.
The bid for an A-League Men's side in Canberra, and to save Canberra United in the Ninja A-League, is calling on government investment to get over the line.
In an open letter, Capital Region Football Collective (the body behind the bid), CEO Michael Caggiano mentioned ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr's $3 million per year commitment into the city's Big Bash League cricket bid, and how a similar investment into football's bid would likely get it over the line.
"As a football family, we know that nationally, football has never had its fair share of government funding when compared to some other sporting codes," Caggiano wrote in the letter.
"An A-Leagues club in Canberra stacks up on every front with a Big Bash team... a matching $3 million per year commitment would go a long way to again demonstrating the commitment of Andrew Barr and the City to finally get us the team we have waited so long for."
Caggiano also mentioned the bid was close to securing investment from a "top-tier European club," bringing with it a potential "revolutionary partnership".
The bid is seeking to be a part of the A-League Men's expansion in 2025-2026 and would also secure the future of the city's women's side, Canberra United | @CBRRegionHAL@10FootballAU
A MESSAGE TO OUR SUPPORTERS
A huge thanks for everyone’s patience as we seek to get this project over the line.
We are close.
Negotiations with investors are well advanced, but as the deadline to take part in the 2025-26 season approaches, we need one last big push.
These are the surprising origins of some of football's most famous kits and crests:
From AFC Ajax being named after a mythical Greek warrior to Barcelona taking their club colours from a school in England...
The day has arrived!! Say G’day to ‘Trot & Canter’ Gin! I can’t thank enough @undergroundspirits for the opportunity & the National Jockeys Trust for their support. This is a bucket list item ticked off. I hope you enjoy the taste and concept. Link in bio to order yours! 🐎
