IF you find yourself justifying your actions and words that have been pointed out to you as racist, stop yourself from denying, take a minute to THINK, CONSIDER, LISTEN, and UNDERSTAND things from the other perspective. It works, and it’s one way you can help.
IF being told your actions or words are racist makes you uncomfortable: GOOD. You should be uncomfortable. Your learning process comes from understanding why those things were misguided.
IF you immediately turn to denial, or “All lives matter” or try to turn the narrative around, you are using your white privilege.
You have never been forced to listen before, and that makes us uncomfortable. It’s a learning curve, but you need to be OPEN to learning.
@Snapesthe1 @mireillecharper @BySamanthaMarch This is exactly the issue. When as soon as someone asks white people to check their privilege, the automatic reaction is denial. It is our job as white people to unlearn the racist ways of thinking that run deep within us. Educate yourself.
now apply what you just said to your own country and your own government. please and thank you.
we have a history and a present of police brutality in canada too.
I see a lot of people posting heavy plywood shields for protecting yourself. Listen to an old LARPER if you take a Rubbermaid lid and blue camping pad and use 3m spray adhesive you can made a huge, lightweight and durable shield for blocking rubber bullets and canisters.
For anyone worried about talking to their white children right now—worried that their kid is too young for these conversations—I was 5 or 6 when my Dad told me “no matter what you do, some people will always hate you.” Black children don’t get to not understand racism.
If you are white, I encourage you to do as much reading as possible right now, and teach yourself about the overt and underlying acts of racism you do every day. And you are doing them, you probably just don’t know it. Changing these behaviours is a step in the right direction.
Antiracist education is everyone’s job. Do not leave it to your colleagues of colour. Do the work and build the relationships. #BlackLivesMatter#blacklivesmattercanada
Please let everyone know: The replay of the @JasonReynolds83 and @KielyBrendan In Conversation from Sunday will remain available through Sunday 6/7. Both Jason and Brendan are continuing to donate ALL their proceeds. https://t.co/ErAgjs9fK4
Today I’m using this account to amplify Black writers and creators. Do you have a book? Make a thing? Got something to promote? Respond here with what that is and I’ll RT you!

Please don’t use the BLM hashtag in your blackout posts. Please only use blackouttuesday. Using the BLM hashtags will suppress the valuable information associated with BLM on the algorithm, making it counterproductive. We need both to exist for solidarity AND awareness activism🖤
racist white ppl be like “burning possessions won’t solve the issue” ....didnt y’all burn Nike products when they endorsed Collin Kaepernick’s peaceful protest ?????????????
