@cathshiang I wish we had more information to share, but these things take time. The symptoms observed don’t fit with starvation very well. If he had been just emaciated, he would have recovered after returning to care. As soon as we have more info, we will share

Annie has never successfully hatched all four eggs in any year we've monitored her. There's always been an egg that didn't make it. Nox was the exception to that: a tiny little bundle of fluff that hatched out of his egg as hundreds of people watched live on BAMPFA's big screen

@cathshiang I just wanted to quickly respond:until the necropsy results come out, we won’t have a clear idea on what happened and there are a huge number of competing theories. The methods used in Nox’s rehab have been used for thousands of falcons that have successfully returned to the wild

@cathshiang Nox’s wing had a very significant fracture, the kind of injury that could never be recovered from even ten years ago. It’s only through highly advanced care that he was able to be released again. Also, at his age, his parents would not have been providing care

We are deeply saddened to receive the news from UC Davis that Nox passed away last night. They will be performing a post-mortem to determine the cause of death, which is still unknown.

We will be posting an in memoriam later today when we have time to honor Nox properly

Losing him is incredibly difficult, especially with how much work he and his human caretakers put in to return to the wild from his initial injury. We will all always treasure the moments we had with him.
