“We have this very complex global food system that is a beautiful thing, because you know you go to the store and there’s such abundance there. But it also can be fragile.”

This story from @SarRavani is a great example of all the benefits that flow out into the community from grocery stores.

From @Newsantaana: "Our city council is operating in a bubble. They are passing laws that directly increase grocery prices and destroy shopping convenience, all to hand a political win to labor unions. #SantaAna residents deserve better than higher bills and longer lines."

The first question grocers get from elected officials is usually about how to get more stores in the neighborhoods they serve. Yet, when they want to pass new laws with significant impacts to the stores they already have, they do so without making space for grocers.
Thank you to @VoiceofOC for covering what took place at the recent #SantaAna council meeting.

"And let’s be honest about a broader frustration many Californians share: when was the last time government actually reduced your cost of living?"
@ocregister on proposed #SantaAna self-checkout restrictions that would increase grocery prices.

The CGA Educational Foundation has reached an incredible new milestone, receiving commitments for $1 million in available funds for college scholarships and industry development for the 2026-27 academic year. 👏📚🎉
This achievement wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of more than 80 donors, whose support is helping shape the next generation of grocery leaders.
For 50 years BriarPatch Food Co-Op has been serving @PlacerCA, building a small, but thriving independent grocer in the foothills between Sacramento and Tahoe.
"Like many small, grass-roots organizations, the early years were choppy, with the store often operating in the red. Margins were so tight that members held rummage and bake sales just to cover basic operations, and volunteers stepped in to handle everything from day-to-day tasks to fixing frequent refrigerator breakdowns with secondhand equipment.”

“I think customers are smart. They realize that nearly every product on the shelf gets here by truck,” Adam Zack, the owner of Jensen’s Foods, said.
He says that way they can absorb as much of the impact as possible, so it’s not put on the customers.

While Californians want elected officials focused on affordability, its politicians continue to pursue policies that raise prices on grocery store shelves. #Anaheim
