Do not blame Balogun for this outcome.
He did not complain about the red card.
He shook the ref's hand.
He said that he wanted to be a good role model for kids.
Most other players whine on every single foul called.
Balogun showed class and I am a lifetime fan.
@ChangingCrisis@terribletiffy12@Randall_Flagg_ I’m genuinely asking what you’d recommend me, a USMNT fan, to do. I need some advice. I think I want to keep supporting the players who have given so much to the future of US soccer and have done nothing wrong themselves but I don’t know if I morally can. Please help
@ChangingCrisis@terribletiffy12@Randall_Flagg_ There’s no way out of this argument. What do you suggest me, a USMNT supporter, do? Should I not watch? do I root for Belgium? Should we storm the capital and demand Trump to remove the US from the competition? I don’t know what you want the fans/players to do.
@Randall_Flagg_@ChangingCrisis@terribletiffy12 Hmmm. Benching a player because you are scared of what the haters on twitter might think seems a bit soft, no? Maybe since we are used to being hated by the world in the US, we cannot see it from your perspective.
@terribletiffy12@ChangingCrisis So the only solution you would accept is if Balogun benches himself. That benefits absolutely nobody. In conclusion, Fifa is corrupt, Balogun is a terrible player and should not be allowed to play but, it doesn’t matter if he plays or not we’ll lose anyway. Why do you care.
@Randall_Flagg_@ChangingCrisis@terribletiffy12 Also, I think most US fans thought it was a poor decision because the Bosnian player initiated the contact not because of its intentionality. But we also don’t know the rules too well.
@Randall_Flagg_@ChangingCrisis@terribletiffy12 How would you have reacted if this happened to your team. I’m genuinely curious. Would you have wanted the player to be benched by the coach anyway?
@ChangingCrisis@terribletiffy12 Okay man. I repeat, be upset at the corruption then. No need to hate on the player. He was just as surprised as the fans to find out he’s allowed to play. Maybe we can just enjoy what should be a great game with both teams at full strength.
@ChangingCrisis@terribletiffy12 You changed why you’re upset…again. No one is disagreeing with you. We aren’t desperate, we thought it was a poor decision, sure. Balogun is 10% of Harry Kane but he is our top goalscorer so far. Why would we not want him to be available, especially for an unfair ruling.
FWIW, 2 sources who told me the same thing: Trump called Infantino to understand the rules, didn’t make a specific ask & was told it was being independently reviewed
"If Trump had put his thumb on the scale and achieved this result, he would have a field day bragging about it”
