This week was bittersweet for our merged union. We were thrilled Monday to ratify our contract after months of bargaining, giving our members needed protections and raises.
We are devastated to lose such talented, kind, & exceptional colleagues who did crucial and impactful work for our newsroom. We are rallying to give them additional cushion as begin their job search, and we would greatly appreciate if you would help:

Big news! Today the CalMatters Guild went to the bargaining table for the first time.
We are so excited to take this step and to get to a contract with management that makes CalMatters the best news outlet to work for in California. Thanks to all for your support so far. Onward!
🦅THE L.A. TIMES GUILD IS WALKING OUT🦅
We are calling for a one-day walkout TOMORROW, Jan. 19, in protest of management's proposal to cut staff and multiple unfair labor practices.

Great news! Thank you to my @calmattersguild organizing committee colleagues! This rapid recognition (a real victory!) belies a lot of planning, research and hard work by @CalMatters journalists dedicated to making journalism in the public interest as good as it can possibly be!
🚨Some Monday afternoon news🚨
Just six days after we announced our union, we won voluntary recognition with 92% support of eligible staff members from across CalMatters!

Next, we look forward to sitting down with CalMatters management and playing a larger role in shaping the next era of the organization we all care so deeply about.
We’re proud to join our fellow nonprofit newsrooms ✊ As @ObjectiveJrn writes “workers with CalMatters, a nonprofit covering California politics and policy, went public with their intention to seek union recognition after a wildly successful card drive.” https://t.co/LWZgwtZwfo
“With the @propublicaguild’s recognition and @calmattersguild heading in that direction, seven of the Institute for Nonprofit News’ 10 largest member newsrooms are now unionized.” https://t.co/sXcM8bMJUa
Members of @PacMediaGuild@newsguild are providing essential coverage of Maui’s devastating wildfire even as they are displaced from their own homes. Please support if you can.
Please give if you can. All donations will go directly to the unionized staff of the @themauinews, including for the purchase of personal protective gear. @PacMediaGuild@newsguild#MauiFires https://t.co/slpsWtGPsD
