Adam Phillips has reflected on his departure from Barnsley, admitting a fresh start felt right after four years at Oakwell.

While explaining why the move to Bradford came about, the midfielder was also keen to thank the club, saying he leaves with "good memories" and wishes Barnsley every success under Daniel Stendel.

Barnsley have been linked with Dunfermline Athletic defender Kieran Ngwenya.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in Scotland after being converted from full-back into a commanding centre-back by Neil Lennon. His performances were instrumental as Dunfermline reached the Scottish Cup Final and the Premiership play-off semi-finals, quickly establishing himself as one of the club's standout performers.

A product of Aberdeen's academy, Ngwenya has also gained valuable experience through loan spells with Cove Rangers, Kelty Hearts, Raith Rovers and Partick Thistle before making a permanent move to East End Park in 2024.

Comfortable on the ball, athletic and versatile, Ngwenya's impressive form has reportedly attracted interest from south of the border, with Barnsley among the clubs linked.

Barnsley have completed the signing of Australian winger Clayton Taylor on a three-year deal.

The 22-year-old arrives from Newcastle Jets, where he scored 24 goals in 79 appearances, including 9 goals and 4 assists in an outstanding 2025/26 campaign. His performances also earned him Australia U23 recognition.

Quick, direct and fearless in one-on-one situations, Taylor looks a perfect fit for Daniel Stendel's high-intensity style.

Barnsley have completed the permanent signing of defender Isaac Smith following his loan spell with the club last season.

The former Manchester City academy product has put pen to paper on a two-year contract, with the Reds holding the option of a further 12 months.

Smith, who turns 21 later this month, has battled through injury setbacks in recent years but arrives with an impressive pedigree, having represented England at Under-17 level.

He is expected to feature as part of Daniel Stendel's first-team squad while also gaining valuable minutes with the Under-21s.

The wait is almost over.

The Reds first pre-season fixture under Daniel Stendel takes place this Saturday as the Reds travel to the Proctor Cars Stadium to face @Matlock_TownFC , with kick-off at 3pm.

The result isn't the priority. This is our first chance to see Stendel's ideas taking shape after a demanding first week of pre-season on the training ground.

Kelechi Nwakali's quality on the ball has never really been in doubt. His passing range, composure and ability to dictate the tempo are there for everyone to see.

My concern is whether those strengths suit Daniel Stendel's style. His teams are built on relentless pressing, intensity, winning second balls and doing the hard yards without possession. That's never been the strongest side of Nwakali's game.

If he's going to become a regular under Stendel, it'll be less about what he can do on the ball and more about whether he can consistently meet the physical and tactical demands of the system.

I'd love to be proved wrong, because there's a talented footballer in there.
