How the fuck do we have $300 billion to rebuild Iran after we spent $80 billion bombing it, when we don’t “have the money” for pediatric cancer research?
The Texas Legislature meets for 140 days every OTHER year.
-We are ranked absolute last in healthcare access
-Rural hospitals are closing monthly
-Farmers are losing their generational family businesses due to drought and tariffs
- 1 in 4 Texas children don’t know where their next meal is coming from
- Seniors are losing their homes due to insurmountable property taxes
- We rank near the bottom of the nation in all measures of education success
- children died this past summer because of failures in disaster planning and emergency response infrastructure
AND
Towns are months away from running out of water.
But man… thank heavens you used the incredibly limited amount of time that we have each year to improve the lives of Texans to pass a bill to ban something that has never happened in our state ever.
Hate is a strong word. I very, very deeply do NOT like the GOP legislators in Texas.
Vote. Them. All. Out.
Can’t stop thinking about how Wall Street is celebrating Elon Musk becoming the world’s first trillionaire, while he single handedly eliminated humanitarian aid that will lead to the needless deaths of 4.5 million of the poorest children in the world in the next 4 years.
#Peace is not something we must invent: it is something we must embrace by accepting our neighbor as a brother or sister. We do not choose our brothers and sisters: we must simply accept one another! We are one family, inhabiting the same home: this wonderful planet that ancient cultures have cared for over millennia. #ApostolicJourney #Cameroon
The U.S. spends far more on healthcare than other rich countries. $15,000 per person (almost double), 18% of GDP (nearly twice as high), and healthcare inflation is 7% (roughly double others).
Yet outcomes are worse. Life expectancy is lower, infant & maternal mortality higher, and chronic disease like diabetes and heart disease higher. Canada with single payer has far lower costs than the US, and even than Germany & Switzerland, and provides better, universal coverage.
Most important, in an AI world, people's healthcare must not be dependent on their job.
Every doctor should be in network.
Medicare for All is needed for our time.
It is a moral and economic imperative.
Donald Trump doesn't understand that the reason his war in Iran is unpopular isn’t because the American people don’t think we can win it.
We don’t want our sons and daughters dying in a war that only profits oil companies, defense contractors, and corrupt politicians.
Too many people in their 30s and 40s are afraid of being out of step with the youth. You *should* be out of step with the youth. You need to be discovering very niche genres of music. You need to develop a fixation with an historical era. Welcome to being gloriously uncool.
NASA is the best of America, what America used to be: professional, science-based, dedicated to excellence, idealistic, and dazzlingly ambitious. May America one day recover its NASA soul.
The wars that stain the present moment with blood are the fruit of the idolatry of power and money. Let us not grow accustomed to the clamor of weapons and images of war! #Peace is not merely a balance of power. It is the work of purified hearts, of those who see others as brothers and sisters to be protected, not enemies to be defeated. #ApostolicJourney https://t.co/WeRUclJHqq
Beware of any Christian movement that demands the government be an instrument of God's wrath but never a source of God's charity, mercy, or compassion.
The idea vaccines cause autism was invented by Andrew Wakefield in 1998 and was so thoroughly debunked he lost his license for gross malpractice
And here we are 27 years later RFK Jr dredging up the same nonsense
Such a tiresome waste of time
Two weeks ago Dept HHS announced they will protect the American people from the ravages of tomato soup.
Today cell phones.
Many thanks MAHA for keeping America safe. But can’t we get zoonotic influenza, coronaviruses, dengue, and bioweapons from Russia, on the priority list?
The reason I don’t want a “Christian nation” isn’t because I’m against Christianity.
It’s because I’ve studied church history and learned about the horrors caused by the church crawling into bed with the empire.
Separation of church and state helps keep Christianity Christian.
Universal healthcare would be astronomically cheaper than our current system, would be the number one impact that could be immediately made to reduce the deficit, and the fact that this is not a widely known, accepted and argued for service is proof of the power of corporate propaganda.
It's so sad that it's considered radical to say that even disabled people who are unable to work should still have nice things. A coffee every once in a while, a nice dinner, a fun trip. Just because you're unable to contribute to capitalism doesn't mean you should suffer.
