Former 'Gay Cure' Leader Arrested for Soliciting Boy.

Florida deputies say the former head of a national ministry that once promoted conversion therapy for gay individuals now sits in jail after he tried to arrange a meeting with someone he believed was a 14-year-old boy.

54-year-old Alan Manning Chambers was taken into custody Tuesday during a traffic stop. He faces charges of solicitation of a minor via computer, transmission of material harmful to minors, and unlawful use of a two-way communication device.

Deputies say the investigation started back in February when an undercover detective created an account on Snapchat posing as a teenage boy from the Orlando area. Chambers allegedly chatted with the detective for several months, moving the conversation to Telegram at times, and eventually talked about meeting up in person.

Chambers served as president of Exodus International, the Orlando-based Christian organization founded in 1976 that encouraged people to change their sexual orientation through faith-based programs. In 2013 he publicly apologized to the LGBTQ community for the harm caused by the group and its message, then shut the ministry down for good
