@AlexiLalas I was at Knicks-Rockets playoff at MSG. screen above floor showing national video feed. Halfway through it cuts away to bronco chase. We in MSG had no idea what that was until guys at concessions told us at halftime. 2nd half crowd starts GO OJ chants. WILDEST NIGHT.
@UrbanExplorer00 Chicago declined to participate with US SOC in the bid and isn’t participating in 2031 women’s WC bid. Question you should ask is why US SOC chose CHI for send off game instead of one of 6 cities that joined bid but weren’t chosen as hosts by FIFA?
@AlexiLalas Hmm. Chicago picked as site for USMNT send off, though city declined to be part of WC bid with USSoc, and refused to be part of 2031 bid for women's WC. Wouldn't it have made more sense to give game to one of 6 cities that were part of bid but not chosen by Fifa as hosts?
@AlexiLalas To what extent was sloppiness in 2nd half caused by cobbled together lineup Poch threw on? Or was it because some subs just aren’t quality enough to deal with speed/tactical demands of this level? Some subs in 2nd half seemed overwhelmed by Senegal players. How deep is squad?
@AlexiLalas Is USA finishing group 2nd most predictable, possibly safest route? Likely get EGY, NZ, or Iran next. Finish 1st and can get 3rd place team from any of 5 groups. Lots of variations, different quality teams in that route.
@JamesHorncastle Did teams have any idea this might be coming? Did they alert authorities? Surely must be Italian laws against conspiring to disrupt commercial activities. Can’t let ultras dictate competition policy like this
@AlexiLalas Bookmakers’ odds of US getting out of group stage are -375 to -800, or an implied probability of 85%. On the other hand, current odds suggest a more than 50% chance they go out in round of 32. Ouch.
@AlexiLalas Heard a 30 minute rant by 3 ex-USMNTs about youth soccer. Couldn’t figure out if they were mainly upset it wasn’t providing better players for national team, or if they simply hated idea of clubs charging parents for kids soccer. Totally incoherent discussion.
@KieranMaguire@nytimes This is entirely predictable. The typical big sporting event like the Olympics or WC has a crowding out effect, where rising prices and tales of crowded hotels and local restaurants discourages people who might otherwise visit.

@AlexiLalas Watching Red Bulls vs. DC United, one minute thinking to myself, this is embarrassing, a few minutes later thinking, I wish more soccer games were like this.
