POSSIBLE SCREWWORM CASE IN TEXAS UNDER INVESTIGATION
Samples from two calves on a ranch in La Pryor, Texas, have been sent for testing after a suspected case of New World screwworm infestation, according to Texas Representative Don McLaughlin.
No case has been confirmed, and the Texas Animal Health Commission said no New World screwworm has been detected in Texas. Earlier reports of a confirmed case near the border were corrected by the USDA, which said the nearest confirmed case was found in Mexico’s Coahuila state, 25 miles south of Texas.
Percentage of US #wheat rated very poor/poor. No moisture will lead to aggressive HRW abandonment. Colorado conditions fell by 7% to 52% VP/P. 82% of Nebraska's crop is VP/P while 51% in Kansas and OK. KC should continue to trade at a steep premium to Chicago.

Tyson Food's beef operation expects to loose between $350-500 million dollars in 2026. Tyson CEO Donnie King "we expect results below historical margin levels until cattle supplies normalize". Unreal...how is Tyson is unable to adjust?? Is there too much bottom 1/3 choice?
USDA's estimates 2026 US all #wheat planted area at 43.8 ma. If realized this would be the lowest all wheat acres since records began in 1919. Lack of export competitiveness & competition from biofuel centric #corn and #soybeans pressure wheat production margins & deter acres
@SnoepKjeld@SethMeyerMU Here is a longer time series of response rates for the 4 quarterly ag surveys. But for March, spring weather and potential economic shifts before planting play the biggest role in changes. LH
Boxed beef remains a ripper!!! (@WTF_Bill) as supplies continue to fall. JBS Greeley, CO striking ahead of grilling season in the US is creating a bid market for beef. With positive margins it will be interesting to watch how packers manage the weekly #cattle slaughter pace
The average daily temperature in western KS, OK & NE from 2/1 to 4/15. 2026 is above the 5 year mean and 2025. The hot & dry conditions as US HRW starts breaking dormancy #wheat can produce a higher protein crop & below trend yields. BTW, wheat is not an energy trade. Stay nimble.
Relative to the pre-report estimates the January #Cattle On Feed is neutral. December placements were slightly above the estimate but below 2024. Comparing December 2025 to 2024 is even because December 2024 was the first full month where the US/Mexican border was closed
It's official...or not just a tweet, but the US is raising the TRQ on ARGY beef imports by 4x to 80,000 mt, or 176 million lbs. Ultimately the volume of tariff free beef is immaterial and will not address US food inflation that is caused by the structural supply deficit of cattle.
Reasons....
1. The proposed 176 million pounds = approx. 1.5 days of US beef production.
2. On average the US produces 488 million pounds of beef each week.
3. The beef that the US imports from ARGY is primarily used at the food service level in burgers and other meat dishes that does not have to be identified by country of origin.
4. Today the USDA mandated COOL labeling where US qualifying beef comes from an animal that is born, raised, and slaughtered in the US. This reduces competition for US choice and select beef at the retail level with the tray pack products.
5. ARGY beef is grass fed. US beef is corn fed. The whole world knows that US corn fed beef reigns supreme. #cattle
Estimated CME Feeder #cattle index for 7/10 +$5.08 @ $321.84/cwt. BOOM!!!! Right through the $320 level. Just can't slow the cash feeder cattle train.
Calling @RandyYmker
I have ordered an immediate shutdown of live cattle, bison, and horse trade through the southern U.S.–Mexico border.
This decisive action comes after Mexico confirmed another case of New World Screwworm in Veracruz. As promised, @USDA remains vigilant to ensure the protection of America’s livestock and food supply.
Estimated CME Feeder #cattle index for 6/9...+$4.30 at $310.46/cwt. BOOM!!! And just like that...the $310/cwt ceiling is shattered. Next stop is $315.
Not being disrespectful or sarcastic, but @RandyYmker graphics are entirely appropriate here!!!!
