NFTs can only happen because of smart contracts. Smart contracts on a blockchain network allow users to not only follow who owns what but also allow for individual images to be coded with specific utility for the user.

The problem with the internet is we can’t prove where something originated & who owns the copyright. Using the blockchain we can now authenticate where things come from, and who owns the rights now. This is bases to what powers #nft technology.
