“There are people for whom philosophy is a means of misleading others, for they misuse its great name, its attractions, and its integrity to give colour and gloss to their own errors.” - St. Augustine
In his first encyclical, cautioning against the dangers of AI and technology, Pope Leo XIV quotes JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King:
“It is not our part to master all the tides of the world, but to do what is in us for the succour of those years wherein we are set, uprooting the evil in the fields that we know, so that those who live after may have clean earth to till.”

@ClassicalTheis I made a post about this in regard to Magnifica Humanitas releasing tomorrow.
Social media and especially X have become basically unusable unless you hyper curate your feed with people who make genuine content. The aggregate accounts are basically just AI engagement farms.
Impatiently waiting for Magnifica Humanitas to release on Monday.
I feel like AI has completely ruined the user experience on basically every platform at this point. Genuine human thought seems rare these days, especially on X.
I also suspect most people underestimate how deeply dependent many have already become on LLMs.
I’m most Interested to see how Pope Leo defines “ethical” or “healthy” use of AI and its integration into society.
Pope Leo XIV’s first encyclical, Magnifica humanitas, on preserving the human person in the age of artificial intelligence, will be released on May 25. A presentation event with the Pope and various speakers is scheduled for the same day at the Vatican.

I know this meme is just bait, but I’m always surprised people still think this is some devastating critique of religion.
Empirical science and metaphysics are not competing categories.
