PREMIER SMITH: "We will defend our constitutional rights, protect our province’s interests and make sure decisions that affect Albertans are made by Albertans."
I remain convinced that the path to a positive resolution with our U.S. partners lies in strong, consistent diplomacy and a commitment to working in good faith toward shared priorities such as North American energy dominance.
To that end, I am pleased to see Ontario’s ad campaign is being suspended and I once again urge the federal government to continue negotiating to resolve these tariff issues and restore a free and fair trade agreement with the United States, while diversifying and strengthening the Canadian economy by unleashing our world-class natural resource sector.
As we return to the Legislature, our government is focused on delivering on the mandate Albertans gave us in 2023 to stand up for this province, protect our freedoms, and chart our path forward. We will defend our constitutional rights, protect our province’s interests, and make sure decisions that affect Albertans are made by Albertans. The federal government stands at a crossroads. Work with us, and we’ll get things done. Overstep, and Alberta will stand its ground.
Today, I announced Bill 1, the International Agreements Act, to protect provincial jurisdiction and ensure decisions that impact Alberta are made in Alberta.
Exciting news!
We’re giving Albertans more choice to access MRIs, CT scans and other preventative tests, without compromising our Public Health Guarantee.
Every physician-recommended test will remain fully covered, and private tests that catch critical conditions will be reimbursed.
Because an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
More access. Faster answers. Better care for Albertans.
Albertans gave us a job to do and we’re getting it done.
This fall, we’re focused on what matters most: lower taxes, less red tape, public safety, and stronger health care.
We’re keeping Alberta the best place to live, work, do business, and raise a family.
Alberta’s government wants the same thing as teachers and families. We proposed a strong offer:
More schools
More teachers
More pay
More educational assistants
This strike is causing irreparable harm to our students. It’s imperative that we put learning first and move forward with a collective agreement that gets students and teachers back to the classroom.
Congratulations to all the newly elected mayors, councillors, and school board trustees across Alberta. I look forward to working with you to make our communities more affordable, get homes built faster, and keep local government focused on results.
My further congratulations to Jeromy Farkas @JeromyYYC and Andrew Knack @AndrewKnack on being elected as Calgary and Edmonton’s newest Mayors.
Today is the day to get out and vote in your local municipal election! Voting opened this morning and will continue until 8PM tonight provincewide.
Thank you to everyone across this great province who decided to put their names forward to represent their municipality or county.
We want the same things as Alberta teachers and parents: More classrooms. More teachers. More pay for teachers. And more educational assistants.
This strike has gone on too long and we are extremely concerned about the impact it is having on students. The ATA needs to do what is right for its members, and for all Alberta students.
Today, I am joined by the Minister of Education and Childcare, Demetrios Nicolaides, to provide an update on teacher bargaining. https://t.co/XzXYQXAPR6

I look forward to working together to strengthen our provinces and build a stronger nation.
Alberta led the country last month, adding 42,500 new jobs. That’s 71% of all new jobs in Canada. Even BMO’s Chief Economist says Alberta is in a league of its own.
Under Premier Smith’s leadership, the Alberta Advantage is alive and well.
