There’s been a lot of talk about free speech and the First Amendment lately.

A quick point and distinction here:

Someone’s First Amendment rights are violated when a **GOVERNMENT** official or **GOVERNMENT** agency does the violating or suppression of speech.

If you say something or post something offensive and horrible that causes you to get fired by a **PRIVATE** company, that is not typically a violation of your First Amendment rights. Private companies can protect their image and reputations through termination of employees who don’t represent the value of the business.

If a PRIVATE citizen blocks you or your words on their social media pages, that is also NOT a violation of your 1A rights nor is it government censorship.

The distinction is who is applying prior restraint or administering consequences for speech.
