Every website has its "chosen ones" where the admins and owners of the site pick favorites and push em to the moon. Perfect example Hasan can talk to terrorists and promote them + shock his dog & say we deserved 911 but gets away with it yet if you say a slur once you're perma banned.
If YouTube was "knowledge + persistence + making good content" like mr beast says then we would all be Mr. Beast... if everyone is a winner nobody is a winner. There's only one and nobody else comes close, because he made it to the top & the system props him up.
If knowledge or quality were what determined success on YouTube or Twitch or any site then Hasan, Jack Doherty, and Vaush must be absolute titans of content creation who have it all figured out... or they just got lucky and blew the right person.
If you have shitty content, then you win the YouTube algo lottery you will get lots of views but no followers or money or any benefit. But having good content does not = views. Its quality + luck.
I think that good content does matter for growth on YouTube. The discovery is the lottery ticket, your quality is what keeps an audience so I'm not saying "gimme views because I deserve it."
I'm saying I wish YT would be transparent and say "ok this this this are all that matter to us after that its all luck"
but they try to gaslight us into thinking "its your fault you arent huge" or these "experts" who say shit about "well if you do these things you'll blow up" yet...
We don't. It's easy to say how to make a million dollars when you already have a billion. You have better odds winning the lottery than becoming the next Mr. Beast unless you have some inside connection to YT team.
Ryans Toy World has 50M+ subs but gets like 100k views... content didnt change. Little kids still exist n watch that kinda shit but the algo just decided to stop blessing 49M people I guess...
>The algorithm follows the audience
No it doesn't. People don't get notifications & say all the time "I thought you quit" when I post daily
>Watch time is the main thing that matters
I get 60+% retention, 8%+ CTR, title/thumbnail that matches quality of people who got millions on the same topic AND YET it flatlines at 300 views...
YouTube is a lottery. Not a skill issue. Perfectly justified since not everyone can be #1 but still would be nice if they stopped lying to us and gaslighting us into "its your fault" constantly
I'm fine with bad view counts. I have no problem with my views being low if the videos suck or aren't delivering. My problem with the YouTube algorithm is it doesn't do what they say it does. It doesn't follow the audience & it doesn't target the right viewers. It shotguns it.
I am not complaining saying "i deserve more" or sour grapes.
I am simply explaining based on YEARS of micro managing my stuff on the most microscopic details on every video for thousands of videos since 2014 that the algorithm makes no sense, has no rhyme or reason, and it just does whatever it wants.
Which is not a good product design & it effectively makes our videos nothing more than lottery tickets since the entire thing is completely random.
What I see as a broken system that sends creators on a wild goose chase for no reason because the system is fundamentally broken due to it being a "black box" which no company should be running any website on an uncontrollable ai that could straight up recommend propaganda or terrorist stuff to kids.
The algo has no idea what its doing half the time... because of all the dead weight and just piles of garbage that have been piling up since 2006!
It needs to just be cleaned out at this point and for the YT team to come out and say "ok the algorithm cares about A B C D E F G" and scrap EVERYTHING else meta data wise.
Because an ad company should be able to have their ai target the right people to show content to that will maximize revenue but right now it's just limping along because the black box has no idea WHAT it wants from US.
Hey @TeamYouTube how about just getting rid of the like/dislike system entirely. Most likes are bots anyway. You should remove everything that doesn't effect the algorithm too like tags, recording dates, all that other junk we have to fill in on EVERY video. Save us some effort.
Also the fact that I have over 9k subs and ZERO people coming to my livestreams... ZERO show up UNTIL AFTER the stream is published as a VOD.
Working on your site at this point is like getting into a plane with 100 dials where 90 of them do nothing but waste our time and the reason the plane won't start is the engine is broken, not because we turned a wrong dial.
Notifications do NOT go out to ANYONE on my channel according to my analytics. Most viewers are not subscribers.
The targeting is also wrong because while I get ok CTR the watch time is abysmal on videos that follow the same formula that more popular videos in the same exact genre/format do because the targeting is wrong.
It has to be the algorithm targeting is wrong because I eliminated every other possibility. Title, thumbnail, topic, tags, game choice, atmosphere choice, length of the video, the audio EQ, the mix, all of it is optimized with a fine tooth comb.
It has to be the targeting engine showing the wrong video to the wrong viewers since we can't target them manually like you could on facebook ads showing a minecraft video to only minecraft fans.
You can't say its "well the algorithm doesnt understand your content yet" its ai. It can read "fall asleep while i play game x" and know what it is without the dead weight.
I already sent the same message to the feedback box. My complaint isn't engagement metrics verification. It's the fact that it's dead weight.
Yet another target for a YouTube creator to aim at when it does absolutely nothing for their channel's growth. Just like how retention means nothing and is pure mythos.
I've had videos that got retention graphs on par or equal to Mr Beast in topics that got millions of views from other creators along with all likes, no dislikes. Yet the video stalls out at a few hundred views on a 10k channel.
The problem is your team tells creators to aim for certain things or stuff like "algorithm follows audience" yet we have many users report to us that they no longer see our content even though they watch it daily.
Sometimes all day every day even as their main source of entertainment. Yet they lose touch with us & think we quit when we continued posting daily with the exact content they binge watched before.
It would just be nice if you were to remove the parameters that have no bearing on recommendations as you said tags have very little relevance if any to discovery so why not remove them so people stop wasting time researching tags as if it'll help them get better outcomes?
You removed dislike counters to avoid spam bots and hate mobs which means you know that likes/dislikes can be botted & are a waste of your companies resources yet you persist in keeping them as another pointless target to aim at when we make content.
That is my point, not the validity of your system but the fact it is a bloated system with a lot of unnecessary clutter that has no value to the creator or the algorithm's choices.
So remove them so creators can focus on what REALLY matters not guessing what might.
@Pirat_Nation Hey @TeamYouTube how about just getting rid of the like/dislike system entirely. Most likes are bots anyway. You should remove everything that doesn't effect the algorithm too like tags, recording dates, all that other junk we have to fill in on EVERY video.
