Yes, there were boycots and such, but when it came to "families" it did not exist. Certainly there were family disagreements and people would "avoid" each other for periods of time... but there was no ๐ฌ๐จ๐๐ข๐๐ฅ ๐ฆ๐๐๐ข๐ ๐ฆ๐๐ ๐๐ฉ๐ก๐จ๐ง๐ where people would proclaim their independence from their parents in the name of "peace", "self-care" and "safe spaces"... We also didn't have a majority of young adults over-medicated and in so called "therapy" like we do today... Oh, and no one canceled someone because they voted for Regan or because they voted for Carter or Mondale...

In a world of "cancel culture", woke ideologies and parental estrangement in the name of personal peace and safe spaces, there is a ton of data that gives insight into how we all got here... Just remember that behind every statistic and every line of data, there is a family being torn apart.

https://t.co/6sIJZxND2j is designed for young adults, who for a number of reasons have opted to restrict access to family they feel are toxic, narcissistic or otherwise harmful to their own peace. It is a place where commonalities can be observed and even shared... it is a place for self-reflection and ultimately to consider, "Now that I have claimed my freedom, what do I /we do next?"
Sometimes young adults go too far by "canceling" their parents... They soon feel like maybe they are "trapped"... But they will find that there IS a path to reconciliation... and it starts with a phone call...

Hope is the lifeline that keeps parents tethered to the possibility of reconciliation, even when the horizon seems impossibly distant. This hope is not naive optimism but a resilient belief in the enduring nature of love. Parents imagine moments of reconnection... a phone call, a letter, or a tentative conversation... yet they temper this with the reality that healing may take time or may never come.
When an adult child chooses to go no contact, the emotional landscape for a parent becomes a turbulent sea of grief, confusion, and unyielding hope. This severance, often abrupt and unexplained, cuts deeply, leaving parents grappling with a profound sense of loss while clinging to the possibility of reconciliation. Yet, through the hurt, resilience emerges... not as a denial of pain but as a commitment to endure, to hold fast to personal values, and to keep the door open for a future where love might bridge the divide. The journey is neither easy nor linear, but it is one marked by strength, introspection, and an unwavering belief in the enduring bond of family.

People who have gone no contact (NC) with their parents often do react with visible satisfaction, encouragement, and even celebration when others follow the same path. This is not mysterious once you look at the social and psychological dynamics that form around the decision.
For all you young adults who have "canceled" your parents...
People's reaction to hearing about "Parental Estrangement" really does say a lot about them... Here's 38 seconds that will make you think...

Vulnerability requires safety that often isnโt there. Telling the truth means trusting the other person with something that can be used against you or dismissed. If someone has been invalidated, mocked, or punished for sharing feelings before, they reasonably conclude that honesty isnโt worth it. Even well-meaning people can respond in ways that feel minimizing (โit could be worseโ) or solution-focused when the speaker just needed to be heard.
The goal of Keep Your Love Alive is to 1) Prevent this from happening by giving foresight to parents and young adults who will almost certainly have at least some different belief systems, and 2) To equip both sides with knowledge after estrangement has been initiated. 30 years ago this did not happen to the scale it is now...
There's really no precedent in our history for ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ of going "๐ง๐จ ๐๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐๐๐ญ" with parents and other family members. The political climate is crazy, and information is so easy to spread and manipulate... but in the END, we are each responsible for our own actions, or lack there of. Sadly, one day, so many people will look back on this era and the greatest regret of their lives...

Before the politics... before the social media clicks... before the algorithms figured us all out... We were a family. Not one of us was perfect... far from it in fact! Parents raised their kids much the way they were raised, hoping to do a slightly better job, but often falling short even of that. Kids grew up in a world that shrunk before their very eyes... One day they're sitting in front of "Barney" & "Teletubbies" and the next day they're sharing Tik Tok reels and "swiping left" because he sounds like a narcissist! Along the way we shared the best of times, and now, perhaps the worst of times...
Adult children are going "no-contact" with their parents at an unprecedented rate in the name of "self-care".
Keep Your Love Alive will serve as a bridge spanning the divide that separates families, so that hopefully, "time" does not run out...
You adult children who have cut off your parents and slandered them on social media... you THINK you have all the time in the world don't you? You actually don't.

Young adults in their 20s and early 30s are over-represented in first-time cutoffs, which aligns with independence, new partners, and clearer assessment of whether the relationship is workable. Estrangement from a parent is not rare. Longitudinal U.S. data show roughly 6% of adult children report a period of no contact with mothers (average first occurrence around age 26) and 26% with fathers (around age 23). Broader surveys find 10โ27% of adults report current estrangement from some family member. Rates are higher from fathers, after parental divorce, and among certain demographic groups. Many cutoffs later reverse (69% with fathers, 81% with mothers in one study).
