@Teabagchampion Im breeding since start of April. Cows are better than ever. Usually Id be around 55% holding to first serve and it looks like Im over 70%. Heifers are a different story, worst year ever. They'll be under 50%. Im hoping weather is the issue tbh
@culladgh@crilly1010 As a farmer there is no option. The only other option that might be there is have old machinery that spends hours in the mechanics at €80/hour labour plus expensive parts. In alot of cases its easier have a repayment, which the majority of them probably have, and get work done
@SimonHarrisTD You've fully lost the room Simon, simple as. Workers generally have been good FG and FF voters. Now ye have turned yer backs. My bill for silage production alone will be over €10000 higher this year due to higher diesel costs. You'll have half of that in your pocket

@johnkellyjkcs@Kildareman2@rtenews It isn't a matter of diversification. It's a matter of climate, land type and labour availability. We have a mild wet climate that can grow grass and cheap labour is non existent. Dairy and beef do well here.
@AidanAidanmc@AlanBurton12 The middle is a bit of a reach to try and push one up while trying to get them to suck. Very manageable in other stalls. It's more awkward than overly heavy 2 guys would lift it. They are a fantastic tool to get calves going
@AlanBurton12@AidanAidanmc One person good enough just don't put a contrary one right in the middle. Hold the bucket for 20 seconds and when theyre sucking put it in holder. Have 2 of them here and would be lost without them. Only 2 cons is loads of buckets to wash and they are bulky. Way more pros
Great night last Thursday presenting the silage results data of the Laois/Offaly Friesian Breeders Silage Competition 25".
We had 2 brilliant guest speakers @CallananDarragh, Lavallyconor Herd, Galway & @Jimmulh, Danville Herd, Kilkenny.
Congratulations again to the winners👏🏻
@Daithi_fenno Descale acid is the only one that works here. I put it on with a knapsack sprayer and wash off after a few minutes. It could need a number of applications
@CiaranOShea11 I tried leaving clover fields till last on each round if I came short then it wouldn't bother me but it was very noticeable. Only seeing nice clover in them now
@CiaranOShea11 I was told treat it the same as non clover until 1st of June then go half rate for the rest of the year. Fertiliser restrictions gone so tight every small bit should help
