Mahmud of Ghazni (971-1030)
Was the Ghaznavid Sultan from from 998 until his death. A formidable warrior, he expanded his empire to it's zenith, from Persia to the Punjab. Also as a patron of the arts, he rivaled the Abbasid Caliphate in power and cultural influence

@SashoTodorov1 I wish I could find it, but someone here said that if you took Alexander the Great and threw him in Waterloo, he would probably be able to figure out the tactics in a few hours, but if you took Napoleon I and threw him at Sedan or Mukden, he wouldn't be able to adapt.

13th century Nicaea flourished. Much of what remained of the wealth, expertise, and spirit of the pre-1204 Eastern Roman Empire coalesced there in a magnificent city. Refugees from Constantinople filled the ancient city, double walls added, new buildings, it was impressive!
