It is rather unfortunate how people make gullible comparison—apparently out of extreme jealousy. In the process, they expose the hitherto concealed incapabilities of their own candidates.
Genevieve and Funke are entirely two different characters. They can never be judged with the same rules and regulations because their styles differed and even genres differ. You can only judge them based on what you like. Eg, if you like comedy, you’ll definitely go for Funke, she kills it. Genevieve is hardly a comedian, and there is nothing wrong with that. Both of them are great in their own way.
Back to movie production. Even a primary school child would realize that Funke is no Genevieve’s mate. This is not about supporting the Yoruba or something. It is about who has been producing, and has produced many more movies.
You said Genevieve’s lion heart introduced Funke to movie production; whereas Funke has produced more than half a dozen groundbreaking movies before Genevieve’s lion heart; after lion heart funke has produced no less than half a dozen “great” movies. Funke met movies in the house. The Yoruba have been producing theatres for centuries and since the beginning of the 20th century, the Yoruba have been producing movies. Scholars have glaringly pointed out that no ethnic nation can beat the Yoruba in term of theatre/movie production.
Besides, I hope you do know that Funke began as a child actor…check the old tv series “I need to know” for example.
Nobody even cares if Genevieve is producing more or less movies. I think she does act well, and I heard she is also engaged in other media/endorsmen and modelling professions. And she deserves respect in whatever she does. But why compare her? Simply because of Funke’s recent movie that broke Nigeria’s movie record.
Why are some of you people like this. The other day you compare Achebe with Soyinka, simply because Soyinka won the Nobel laureate that Achebe never won. You think those who opted for Soyinka are fools and deal with emotions? Check the works of each other them.
Instead of appreciating each person for their capacity, you compare everything…thereby revealing your inferiority complex. Competition are for kids, fools, not for the matured
Reading post like this is one of the reasons that made me get mad at the British, 1884/5, Nigeria, nollywood, and even the Yoruba as a people.
If we were not stichted together all these distracting rubbing-shing would not be happening. Except when necessary, I hardly participate in rattlings like this. It is way below my standard, and I am busy giving my life and Yoruba race a meaningful and reasonable existence. People like you have made Nigeria a conglomeration of unhealthy competition.
What is more disappointing is that Funke makes herself a “Yoruba but”, b’cos she wants to get accepted by your kind. I hope she studies histories to realize that getting accepted never worked for people like you.
