@Mark_Jones1986@siennamarla Labour’s fear of Reform says it all. If they truly believed they were improving lives and had public support, they’d call an election. They won because voters rejected the Conservatives, not because they backed Labour.
@Mark_Jones1986@siennamarla It is difficult to avoid the charge of hypocrisy. At a time when public trust in politics is already deeply eroded, how can people be expected to place their faith in politicians who advocate one position in opposition, only to adopt another once in government?

Andy Burnham is understood to have held secret talks with Sir Keir Starmer, as the prime minister pledged to smooth his transition to power
Starmer was said to have left Downing Street for an hour-long “off-site” meeting with Burnham — the first time the two men had spoken since he returned to Westminster
Starmer decided today to allow the cabinet secrerary to begin transition talks with the former Greater Manchester mayor even though nominations for the Labour leadership contest had not yet opened

Boris called an election.
Theresa May called an election.
Labour demanded an election when Rishi Sunak became prime minister.
Funny how all those same Labour MPs don’t want an election now, even though Andy Burnham is about to become prime minister, with no mandate.
@Telegraph Bringing Starmer in as Foreign Secretary would make sense given his international credentials. But Burnham still needs a fresh start—promoting new talent from the 2024 intake and bringing in expertise from outside politics, rather than relying on the same old cabinet faces.
@AndyBurnhamGM With the greatest respect, you should take over the leadership if that’s the decision made — but you should then call an immediate general election, just as you and many in Labour demanded when the Conservatives changed leaders. Anything less risks looking like hypocrisy.
@AngelaRayner Do you still stand by your 2022 calls for a general election following a change in leadership? If not, this looks like hypocrisy — the principles you championed in opposition shouldn’t suddenly stop applying when you’re in government
@wesstreeting Offered a big Cabinet job then, and suddenly principles seem to disappear. It’s all about career progression. Will he stick to what he said in 2022 about a change of leader requiring a general election?
@RebelHQ Technically, it could happen, but the decision ultimately rests with the King. If there is a candidate who can command a majority in the House of Commons and form a government, there is no need for an election. So, in practice, it won’t happen
@GarethReeves4@BenInRushcliffe@Keir_Starmer It’s not about taxing wealth, but using taxpayers’ money more effectively. With borrowing costs and IR still high after Covid & global shocks, every decision matters. Even if borrowing is needed, it shouldn’t default to higher taxation. The BOE should recognise that.
@gadge4444@BenInRushcliffe@Keir_Starmer The e usual ‘blame the Tories’ line doesn’t hold forever. You can’t keep blaming them indefinitely. Starmer has a large majority but has barely used it so far—that’s the real issue.
@GarethReeves4@BenInRushcliffe@Keir_Starmer Young people are too often overlooked. Apprentices are paid far less despite similar work, and support for getting on the housing ladder is limited. That money would have been better used to help first-time buyers, improve apprentice pay, and support veterans and the homeless,
@PolitlcsUK He needs to understand that the country has lost faith in him. Most People feel things have got worse, not better, under his leadership.
Burnham could be the change the country needs. He should stand outside No. 10 and say: “Give me a year, and I’ll call an election.”
@ToryWipeout@Paul_Lfc4 He should choose to step down with dignity rather than drag the party through a damaging leadership battle. Even if Starmer wins, his credibility will suffer, and no leader can govern successfully without the support of their MPs.
@100glitterstars The UK voted to leave the EU, and there’s a strong case for focusing more on the North, not just London. Andy Burnham has consistently championed the North and younger people facing significant challenges, which may argue have worsened under Keir Starmer’s leadership.
@theipaper If this change of govt does happen.. it needs to be a complete clean slate from the Starmer govt ie cabinet wise… maybe even a chancellor who understands economics - not necessarily an MP either. Be the proper change candidate this country is in desperate needs for
