@The88gun@Knightly_Hist Quoting Tobias Capwell 'had Henry been armed in one of his fine Greenwich armours, he would have been well-protected and almost certainly would have emerged unscathed' Of course I'm not trying to dismiss the danger (just that example) as tons of accidents/deaths occurred jousting
@The88gun@Knightly_Hist Sorry but Henry VIII's severe leg injury in 1536 was NOT during a 'joust in full gear' this is unfortunately a common misconception. He was riding at the ring which were generally run without armour
@KatieArmours So many of my museum armour photos end up at odd angles with trying to avoid reflections 😭 I even brought a sheet of a4 black card with me once to try block some out (which did kinda help lol)
@Knightly_Hist Nahh I thinks it's because I spend 99% of my time browsing the online collections for refrences that they have embedded in my mind 😅 Hope you get the chance to head down sometime! I'm only a train journey away so I'm especially privileged
@Knightly_Hist They have so much character! The Gostwick and Stowe helms are two of my fave chinny examples - displayed at the Royal Armouries UK. Both are a bit beefier than the above example but still have a nice shaping. Cant forget to mention those little doors/windows
@_minska @Knightly_Hist It's an absolutely beautiful book, one of my most treasured books I have. I will say though, that the online photos dont get across the sheer size of the thing! It's a whopper
Attended with my dad, who's usually at the football and he put in a top-notch effort chanting with the crowd (of course rooting for the home team which M.r Collin was a part of 😉) although his 'laissez aller' morphed more into an Olé Olé haha
Laissez Aller! ⚔️
It was an absolute dream to work on this piece for the brilliant mikecollin_stunts whom I actually got to see in action at the 2024 joust at the Royal Armouries. It was a cracking event that I couldn't recommend enough! Lots of lovely shiny armour 😍
