This is a bit more than a match report as today simply illustrates why, for me, whatever the result on Thursday, Moyes and the Club must part ways in the summer.

We have a squad only in name, he’s flogged the same 13 - 14 players all season long and low and behold, when we need to use the squad players they struggle as they simply aren’t used to game time. It’ll be exactly the same next season too as he’s proven he can only manage a small group of players.

Equally, his development of players is nonexistent, it’s hard to name one player who’s really improved under Moyes coaching. You could argue that some having actually regressed. When he joined he talked about wanting to follow the Red Bull model. A model which relies upon developing young players. That’s never going to happen under Moyes coaching.

Then we have persisting with broadly the same counter attacking tactics, which rely heavily on a fit and firing Antonio, a style you could say that he lucked upon at the beginning of his tenure.

There’s absolutely no indication that he can evolve and adapt how we play, which is a big part of why he fails to integrate new signings.

With Moyes at the helm next season I don’t even see us standing still, it’ll be a relegation scrap from day one. Yes on occasions we’ll raise our game and beat a top six side but more often than not Moyes will be predictable and out thought by opposition managers.

I’ll thank him for taking us far in Europe two seasons running, some truly unforgettable European nights, but whilst this could be viewed as a degree of progress, there’s no indication he can evolve and progress the Club any further.

With Rice off in the summer, the appointment of Moyes successor is probably once of the most significant appointments in the Club’s recent history, the worry is that it’s Sullivan and co. making that decision.
