I know it's mostly a taste/culture based thing but saying "It wasn't necessary" is the hugest tell for disliking something without anything constructive to say
Stories aren't necessary. Games aren't necessary. Art finds it's plays around any requirement or expectation
Some people do not have the necessary EQ to handle such delicate topics. At the very least, you see glimpses of their characters through the empty space of what is and isn't there
Frankly, its a very thinly-veiled way of dismissing somebody and sweeping them under the rug without the repercussions to their reputation in fear of being seen as incompassionate
