Who Takes Responsibility for Broken Promises ? 🧵
1) @RTFKT a once-promising Web3 project, has left many in the community disappointed after recent moves by @Nike. The decision to pull the plug on several initiatives has raised serious concerns about unfulfilled promises and accountability. Let’s break it down.
2) It’s not about the founders:
This is not an attack on the RTFKT team. Many of us believe they had great intentions and genuinely wanted to deliver on their promises. But the reality is: when a corporation like Nike steps in and disrupts everything, they need to take responsibility. #Respectfully
3) Promises made, millions collected:
Over the years, RTFKT sold products and NFTs with promises of utility & innovation. Now, with Nike pulling the plug, many of these promises remain unfulfilled - or were rushed through in questionable ways. Eg.:
Move-to-Earn Competition:
Promised as a utility platform where holders could earn rewards for being active. Nike hastily ran a single event just before winding things down, seemingly to claim they’ve fulfilled their promises. Is that enough? Many say no.
Monolith Drops:
Marketed as featuring groundbreaking innovations. Now, we hear of a rushed final drop in December...?
4) Only some of the many promises made vs. delivered:
Season 1 Merch:
Buyers were promised integrated digital utility through Invtry app that would impact rarity and more.
Let’s be honest: people wouldn’t have spent thousands - or even hundreds of thousands (each)- of euros just for the physical items. The promised digital functionality has yet to materialize.
Vials and Evolution Sneakers:
Marketed as revolutionary digital tools to transform and evolve sneakers. Instead, these turned out to be small plastic accessories that you attach to the physical sneakers. Many spent thousands / hundred thousands, expecting groundbreaking utility.
5) 🤐 "Move on"? Really?
Some say "Move on, you made friends. Nike will obviously never give up the IP anyway."
But let’s be real: friendships and assumptions don’t justify broken promises. What about the people who trusted these projects and invested in good faith? #Protect
6) Web3 is about unity:
We are not just the Clone X community. We are #Web3. Hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions, believe in the principles of decentralization, fairness, and accountability. Together, we are stronger than any single corporation !!!
7) Remember GameStop and WallStreetBets?
Communities have proven time and again that when they stand together, they are powerful. This isn’t just about RTFKT - it’s about the principles of Web3 and the need to hold big players accountable. #NeverFadeTheCommunity
8) Accountability matters:
If promises were used to drive sales and generate millions, there’s an obligation to deliver on those commitments. This wouldn’t be acceptable in Web2 -so why should Web3 operate differently? Trust and accountability are non-negotiable.
What’s even more concerning: There hasn’t even been an effort to communicate with the community or provide clarity on the direction moving forward. Instead, they simply shut it down and expect us to accept it without question. #Protect
9) They’re counting on our silence:
They likely hope we’ll stay quiet, that we’ll simply accept these broken promises without making noise. But let’s be clear: they could never treat their Web2 customers, partners, or suppliers like this without repercussions. Why should it be any different here?
10) Be vocal - everywhere, not just on CT:
Let’s raise awareness not only on CT but on other platforms like LinkedIn, Facebook, or Instagram. Share the facts, expose the gaps, and invite others to join the conversation. #NeverFadeTheCommunity
Let’s keep it professional though:
This isn’t about shouting into the void or spreading baseless claims. Stick to the facts. Post the broken promises, the rushed deliverables, and the gaps in what was committed vs. what was delivered. The truth is on our side.
11) Broken promises harm everyone:
Trust is the currency of Web3. When promises are broken, it doesn’t just hurt holders - it damages the broader ecosystem. Nike’s decisions risk alienating a loyal community while setting a dangerous precedent for accountability in the space.
12) This must not be normalized:
Holders should organize and explore legal options if necessary. Unfulfilled promises and rushed events don’t absolve a company of responsibility. Nike and other corporations should recognize that the Web3 community values transparency and accountability. Profiting from the community while leaving promises unresolved could harm trust and reputation.
Final thoughts:
The evolution of brands relies on innovation and connection. Just as no brand can survive today without platforms like social media, e-commerce, or community-driven engagement, the future demands Metaverse and Web3 integration. Ignoring or exploiting Web3 communities isn’t just short-sighted - it’s a strategic mistake....
Nike, it’s time to take responsibility. At least return the IP tied to RTFKT to the community.
To everyone affected: keep holding them accountable. Web3 thrives on trust, and together we can ensure this remains a space for innovation and fairness.
Let’s document the gaps together. If you have screenshots of unfulfilled commitments, share them.
