A quick trip to St. Albans found me at St. Michael's Church.
It houses a magnificent pulpit of Elizabethan woodwork with an hourglass to one side, a feature included to prevent clergymen preaching sermons that lasted for over sixty minutes!

I finally got my hands on the organ of Tron Kirk Gilmerton and Moredun, the last organ I was yet to meet in south-east Edinburgh, to play for the World Day of Prayer service this afternoon. @churchscotland
With John Penman, the new Priest of St. Vincent's Chapel, after Choral Evensong, where I have been appearing as guest organist for the past few Sundays. @secsynod
The @LibertonKirk New Year's Lunchtime Concert will showcase a screening of Buster Keaton's 'The General' from the magical days of silent films. The comedic melodrama, with live musical accompaniment from Lawrence Dunn and Philomusica of Edinburgh, will leave you speechless!
An afternoon at the old Paisley High Kirk, featuring the totally unsupported ceiling at ninety feet across, the largest of its type in Western Europe. @DoorsOpenDays@churchscotland
At St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Dalkeith, the last working water-powered organ in Scotland that is regularly used for worship has an important final procedure when shutting down the organ -- switch off the water supply at the mains! @secsynod
A welcome return to @DoorsOpenDays found me at Galashiels Trinity Church, where an old plaque for an early hearing device once used in churches survives on a pew. Also met the fine Forsters & Andrews organ, later enlarged by Ingram, with a console clock by Lees @churchscotland
A change of scene for me with 'Smells and Bells' at St Patricks RC Church - Edinburgh and the 1835 Bruce organ featuring a fearsome straight pedalboard and a ratchet swell! Interesting apse to side of building from a time when congregation originally faced east. @archedinburgh
In good company with the Stirling and District Society of Organists for a recital by Robin Bell, organist of Stenhouse and Carron Church; and a talk on the architecture of Larbert Old Church by Dr. Peter Burman, Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London. @churchscotland
👀 After many years of campaigning the Craigmount Steps have been removed making for significant improvements for active travel in the North Gyle / Craigmount part of the ward. Yay!
A peak inside the Ingram organ at the Astoria Centre in Corstorphine reveals some of its fully-mechancial percussive instruments whilst the console shows the variety of amusing sound effects at the player's disposal.
