We are very excited that on 14 July we will be joined by American artist @angeladjohnson who will share and discuss examples of her work. Her themes are Black traditions, family, migration, loss and memory. Visitors are welcome - just drop us a line #thewomensinstitute#blackart
We had a very interesting talk by Sophie Ellis @Psych_SEllis, from the Institute of Criminology. Sophie was so knowledgeable and made us question so much about prisons and crime, including the fundamental question: what are prisons for? So much food for thought.
In our March meeting we’ll be getting mindful and creative all at the same time when Ann O’Shaughnessy @sweetjamesdesigns shows how to create our own mandalas! #mindfulness#mandala#WI
For our April meeting we are stepping inside the UK’s prisons. Sophie Ellis @Psych_SEllis from the Institute of Criminology, Cambridge, will be telling us what really goes on behind bars and why we should care. Interested in joining us? Email [email protected]
Our February talk ties in nicely with Valentine's Day; we're going to hear all about Victorian love letters and how they played a crucial role in courtship and engagement. Telling us all about this will be Cambridge PhD student Maggie Kalenak. Email us if you’re interested!

On Sept 9 we’ll be joined by Jemma Dell @yellingpig who’ll be showing us the art of Japanese-style fabric mending. So, save the date and get some fabric, thread and patches of cotton to take part!#thewi
We’re planning a social get together in August and, to give us a focus, we’ll be having a go at drawing or colouring on the theme of summer. That should leave a hand free for a glass of wine or maybe a cheeky Pimm’s! Get in touch if you’re not a member and would like to join us.
Yesterday we had our very own Ted talk - Ted von Hippel took us to Mars, Jupiter’s moons and beyond in the search for extraterrestrial life. Mind blowing!
At our July meeting we will be expanding our horizons - quite literally! Ted von Hippel, Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Florida, will be talking to us about whether there is any other life in the universe. Visitors welcome!
