Delighted to be at the event to celebrate the work of Prof Nicky Padfield @cambridgelaw - opened by saying ‘we decided not to write a book that no one reads in Nicky’s honour, but to do an event that speaks to people in the real world.’ #realworkmatters
I am forever grateful for Nicky 's spiritual and intellectual support when I was an international student in the Fitzwilliam College. She is a beacon of light for people far and wide.
A privilege to be part of this afternoon’s ‘conversations event’ in honour of Nicky Padfield @cambridgelaw this afternoon. Nicky’s commitment to asking brave and brilliant questions and to her ‘democratic underlabouring’ in her scholarship, teaching and outreach spotlighted.
One of my favourite human beings alive as humble as she is brilliant, Professor Nicky Padfield closes the day held in her honour @cambridgelaw asking ‘what is a good teacher’ - one who loves what she knows is what Nicky has taught me on this.
We closed with presentations by Alpa Parmar, on ‘Race, Discretion, and Sentencing’ and Tony Bottoms on ‘Parole’.
Thanks to all presenters and everyone else who came out today to celebrate Nicky’s career!
Next, Dr Jonathan Rogers will be speaking about his work with @CLRNNetwork on private prosecutions.
(Depending on speaker consent, recordings of the presentations will be put on the CCCJ website in due course.)
Today we celebrate our inaugural Director, Nicky Padfield, with an event on ‘Criminal Justice Conversations’, which will consider the importance of conversations with those directly affected by various aspects of the law.
To @cambridgelaw for a Criminal Justice Conversation on Experiencing and Researching #criminaljustice - looking forward to meeting some of my Twitter friends in person !
An opportunity to celebrate the enormous contribution that Professor Nicky Padfield, one of our founding trustees, has made to the field of sentencing and beyond.
