Just because the government doesn’t label it a “tax” doesn’t make it any less of one. Clean Fuel Regulations force fuel producers to lower the carbon intensity of gasoline and diesel or buy compliance credits, costs that get passed straight to consumers at the pump. According to the Parliamentary Budget Officer, this “hidden carbon tax” is set to hike gas prices by up to 7 cents per litre in 2026 alone, with no rebates to offset the hit. So, what else would you call a policy that mandates higher costs on everyday essentials, enforced by the state and funneled through producers to your wallet? It’s a tax in everything but name, plain and simple.

Honest questions for Canadian Liberals:

Are you not moved to deep moral revulsion by this endless stream of stories about violent criminals on bail victimizing innocent people, especially women and girls??

If so, why the temporizing, the half-measure bail reforms, the unthinking deference to judges even when they are putting violent criminals back on the streets?

Why not return to Parliament with a bill that slams the door shut on bail, conditional release etc. for monsters like this, and applies the Charter’s Sec. 33 to protect it from aberrant judicial decisions?

This government has reversed policy on many less weigthy issues, like tax and environmental policy. There is no shame in admitting that this craziness in the justice system has gone too far, and needs to be corrected.

But there is great shame in allowing this madness to continue.

People carried Venezuela’s flag and sang together in the early morning hours. “It's not an act of war. It's an act of freedom,” one Venezuelan said.
