We have proposed 5 interim actions to try to address traffic safety concerns on Cambridge Street. With the ongoing high collision rates, urgent action is required. If you agree, contact John Orlikow 2049865236. @safespeedswpg@BikeWinnipeg @BikeweekWPG https://t.co/0BscVRI2ZU
Winnipeg, we have a problem.
Year after year, more drivers are caught using their phones behind the wheel. The warnings are out there. The risks are clear. But the numbers keep going up.
Your messages can wait. Your safety - and the safety of others - can’t. Leave the phone alone. 🚗📵

@brent_bellamy@LovingParadise5 There are three things that reduce traffic congestion, Public transit, cycling infrastructure, and pedestrian accessibility. Everything else a city builds increases traffic congestion.
Winnipeg, we need to talk about impaired driving.
Our Checkstop Enforcement teams had an alarming week – and not for the right reasons. Here’s what they encountered:
•35 impaired drivers. Yes, you read that right. Thirty-five. Even one is too many.
•Two drivers were found passed out behind the wheel.
•One driver continued driving after sideswiping multiple parked vehicles.
•Another tested positive for cocaine.
•Most disturbingly, one impaired driver had a 5-year-old child in the backseat.
This isn’t just a safety concern; it’s a call to action. We must do better, Winnipeg. Plan ahead. Arrange a safe ride home. Never, ever drive impaired.
Let’s protect our roads and the lives of everyone who uses them.
A full breakdown of last week’s Checkstop statistics can be found in the media release below.

Another one at Cambridge and Dorchester this evening. This could have been prevented with some proactive speed reductions. Collisions like this should not be happening on small residential roads. #winnipeg#wpgpoli
In the last several years, ped + cyclists deaths in Winnipeg were higher than vehicle driver/passenger deaths on average. That is scary to think about when you consider that most people under 16 tend to walk or ride a bike to get to and from school everyday. #winnipeg#wpgpoli
Toronto had 22 pedestrian deaths in 2022 and a pop of just over 3 million. Winnipeg had 12 pedestrian deaths for a pop of 783,000. So Winnipeg has more than double per capita. In the years following the switch to 30km/h in Toronto their rate went down by 67% #winnipeg#wpgpoli
My city has a problem with vehicle speed, weight and size. When will decision makers take this danger in our community seriously and fix it!
