The Rt Hon Steve Reed MP, the Secretary of State for Defra, has postponed the determination decision for the Cambridge Waste Water Treatment Plant Relocation Project. A decision is now expected to be made on 12 January 2025.

It would not be appropriate to comment in detail outside of that process, but in response to media reports, we underline that these proposals continue to be discussed and agreed with the Conservators of the River Cam as well as the Environment Agency and the local community.
In response to queries from the community regarding the River Cam following the recent examination hearings, we would like to provide some clarification.
Following discussions at the examination hearing, Anglian Water agreed to review and clarify the proposals and we will be submitting our formal response to the examination process shortly in accordance with the PINS programme.
Following Anglian Water’s submission of the application for a Development Consent Order on 28 April, we are pleased to announce that the application was accepted for examination on 24 May.
Interested parties will be able to submit a ‘relevant representation’ to the Planning Inspectorate. Throughout the examination process, interested parties will be kept informed and invited to participate and have their say. The examination is expected to start Autumn 2023.
Anglian Water has recently submitted a Development Consent Order to the Planning Inspectorate following the launch of the project in 2020 and three phases of public consultation on the proposals for a new waste water treatment facility for Greater Cambridge.
Following the final phase of consultation, a summary report is now available and explains all feedback received from the local community and other stakeholders and describes how this has fed into the final design
