When people think about the first cars ever made, most imagine smoky engines, petrol smells, and clunky machines. But here’s a twist: the very first cars in the 1800s were actually electric.
In the 1830s, inventors in Hungary, the Netherlands, and the U.S. were already experimenting with small-scale battery-powered vehicles. By the late 1800s, electric cars were quietly gliding through city streets — smoother, cleaner, and easier to drive than their steam and petrol rivals.
By 1900, electric cars made up nearly one-third of all vehicles on the road in the U.S. Wealthy city dwellers loved them because they were silent, required no hand-cranking, and didn’t belch smoke.
So, what happened? 🤔
The rise of cheap mass-produced petrol cars (thanks to Henry Ford’s assembly line in 1913) and the discovery of abundant oil quickly pushed EVs into the shadows. Petrol cars were cheaper, faster to refuel, and could travel longer distances — making them the dominant force for the next century.
Now, more than 100 years later, EVs are making a massive comeback.
It feels less like “new technology” and more like a return to our roots.

Did you know?
Nigeria has only 15,000–20,000 electric vehicles on the road today — that’s less than 1% of the nation’s cars.
But here’s the catch:
•Demand for cheaper, cleaner alternatives to petrol is rising.
•Charging networks & service hubs are beginning to take shape.
•By 2030, EV adoption could accelerate massively as costs fall.
👉 The journey has just begun, and early adopters will shape the future of mobility in Nigeria.

The battery in a hybrid doesn’t need to be plugged in!
It charges itself through a process called regenerative braking—when you slow down, energy that would normally be wasted is stored back in the battery.
Did you know your EV can do more than just drive? With V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) tech, EV batteries can power homes, buildings, and even support the grid during blackouts.
The future of energy is here — and it’s electric.

@geeknamedsalma Absolutely valid concern! With a proper home setup, you can conveniently charge overnight. Plus, Camel Mobility is working to expand reliable public charging stations across Abuja so you’re never stranded.
@Iyanunelson1 We get you! Power supply can be a challenge, but that’s why EVs come with flexible charging options — from home setups to public charging stations we’re expanding across Abuja already.
The goal is to make charging as reliable as possible, even with NEPA’s mood swings. 😉
Where precision meets power.
The BYD SEAL combines award-winning design with 0–100 km/h (0–60 mph) in 3.8 seconds and a 570 km (354 miles) WLTP range. Ocean-inspired and performance-driven, it’s electric driving redefined.
Petrol prices are rising, maintenance costs keep climbing, and fuel queues remain a burden. Electric Vehicles (EVs) are the smarter choice for Nigeria: lower fuel costs, fewer mechanic visits, zero emissions, no scarcity stress, and a smoother, quieter ride.

The Numbers Don’t Lie!
When it comes to cost-effectiveness, Electric Vehicles (EVs) have the edge over petrol-powered cars.
For every 100km:
•ICE Cars: Average cost is about ₦9,000 (based on 10 litres @ ₦900/litre).
•EVs: Average cost is about ₦6,000 (based on 20kWh @ ₦300/kWh).
That’s a ₦3,000 saving per 100km — imagine how much you save monthly or yearly!
EVs are not just cleaner for the environment, they are also friendlier to your wallet.
With Camel Mobility, you’re not only reducing emissions but also cutting costs.
The future of mobility is here. Are you ready to #DriveElectric?

Driving 100km in an EV costs just ₦6,000, while a petrol car gulps ₦9,000.
That’s a ₦3,000 saving every 100km—smart, clean & cost-effective!
