๐งตExcited to tweet about some work recently accepted โ by the Review of Economics of the Household on understanding why families take care of foster children! Motivated by the shortage of families for foster children, this paper builds a Beckerian model of foster care.
I previously tweeted about a few NBA players having strong bounce back seasons. A few more months in and Kawhi and Lauri are continuing very strong! ๐ช Russ and LaVine have fallen off. Jrue's had pretty serious injury problems.
@tejfbanalytics Interesting. What about the time series of the distribution? I'd be curious if this is mainly driven by an increase in the propensity of a specific ADOT being very popular or the whole distribution is shifting down uniformly.
@_JasonLT This is a such a great insight. A principled approach with a great counterexample.
Kyrie-Cavs >= Kyrie-Mavs
Young Lebron > Luka now
=> (Lebron, Kyrie) > (Luka, Kyrie) โ
Seems the first comparisons are not too controversial...
@FieldVisionMi Any specific players that make this the best secondary? Do they have the best "portfolio" of players that fill in different roles? Or the best overall depth?
@econoflove Check out this tweet (and paper) if you're interested in learning how a model inspired by Gary Becker can inform how we think about families caring for disadvantaged foster children!

I see lots of other great work on foster care going on in econ - I highly recommend diving in. Lots of big important unanswered questions!

A counterfactual finds that a larger (partial equib) increase in fostering comes from reducing consumption of biological children than from (proportionally) increasing subsidies, suggesting there may be opportunity to focus foster care recruiting on this substitutability.
