I am deeply saddened by the passing of my friend, Professor Ali Jimale Ahmed. Our friendship began in 1997, sparked by my reading of his influential works, The Invention of Somalia and Daybreak. At the time, my own thinking was shaped by Edward Said, Noam Chomsky, and Howard Zinn, and we spent many hours engaged in academic discussions on literary criticism, postmodernism, and African literature. When he wrote a letter of recommendation for my graduate school applications in 2009, he humorously remarked that he had assumed I already held a graduate degree back when we first met in 1997. I will always be grateful for his enduring friendship and mentorship.

I hereby announce my resignation as Spokesperson and my withdrawal of membership from Puntland First.

My time in Puntland has been a period of meaningful reflection and growth. Through this journey, I have come to a deeper understanding,Puntland is not a separate entity, nor does it pursue a path toward independence. It was never meant to stand apart, but rather to play a leading role in the reconstruction of Somalia anchored in unity, good governance, and national leadership.

To truly achieve our shared aspirations—peace, stability, and progress—we must move forward together as one united Somalia 🇸🇴. The future we seek cannot be realised through division. It demands collective effort, national solidarity, and a renewed commitment to building a country that serves all its citizens.

As seen in this video, where the Puntland and Somalia flags fly side by side, we are reminded that our identity is shared, our future is intertwined, and our strength lies in unity. Puntland was established to stand with Somalia not apart from it.

This decision is not a step away from purpose, but a return to the founding principles that shaped Puntland’s vision a Somalia that is united, inclusive, and strong.

I extend my sincere best wishes to the new leadership and the wider Puntland First team in all their future endeavours.
