@APSteinhauser Before NAFTA, Mexican products had a ~20% tariff, so Mexican manufacturers were never a threat. As a result of NAFTA, those tariffs went down to zero, which caused many jobs to shift from the U.S. to Mexico, and thus many people lost their jobs.
#APLangDiscussion#CCHSAPLang
@APSteinhauser Mexico and Canada benefit the least from this agreement, as they still have to deal with the U.S. steel and aluminum tariff. Car buyers and manufacturing companies will also no longer be able to capitalize on cheap Mexican labor.
#CCHSAPLang#APLangDiscussion
@APSteinhauser The U.S. benefits the most because they regain some access to the Canadian dairy market, and maintain their trading loophole on steel and aluminum tariffs.

@Alex_Gaines123@APSteinhauser I agree. It's unclear whether Roy would've committed suicide, had Carter not encouraged him to in his last moments. Yet, I would argue that it was still Conrad who took the decision, so Carter shouldn't be held fully responsible.
#APLangDiscussion#CCHSAPLang
@JoeOcker@APSteinhauser I disagree, a fine would barely affect her. As it is a case of assisted suicide, it's only natural that she spends time in jail to understand her mistakes, and at least begin to repay Roy's family.
#APLangDiscussion#CCHSAPLang
@ShawSha01952734@APSteinhauser I think that a life sentence is a bit too harsh, considering that she was young, and teenagers are prone to make mistakes. Yet I do agree that she has to serve further jail time and reflect.
#CCHSAPLang#APLangDiscussion
@APSteinhauser 3. Because she was underage at the time, I don't think that her consequence should be as severe as the prosecutors wished for, but she definitely should serve some jail time to reflect on her mistakes.
#CCHSAPLang#APLangDiscussion
@APSteinhauser 2. Whether a person should be responsible for a suicide is dependent on their intentions. If a person oppresses or encourages someone to commit suicide, while fully knowing the consequences, they should be tried based on their degree of participation
#APLangDiscussion#CCHSAPLang
@APSteinhauser She isn't completely responsible, as it was Roy who took the decision, but it's practically inarguable that she encouraged him to do it; and it's hard to say whether he would've done it had she not pushed for it. So she's responsible to an extent.
#APLangDiscussion#CCHSAPLang
@Jamie27815235 @APSteinhauser I disagree. I think the U.S.' responsibility is to punish or completely halt Assad's regime, which would in turn prevent the use of chemical weapons and the violation of human rights in Syria.
#APLangDiscussion#CCHSAPLang
@Alex_Gaines123@APSteinhauser I agree. If the U.S. pointlessly involves other allies, it would only further augment the problem. That is assuming that Syria's allies don't do anything in opposition to the U.S.' intentions.
#APLangDiscussion#CCHSAPLang
@Mariseluhhh @APSteinhauser I disagree. I don't think that a regime which would deliberately harm its own people can go unpunished. It's unrealistic to think that such a regime would halt their crimes out of their own accord.
#APLangDiscussion#CCHSAPLang
@APSteinhauser Other major countries share the same responsibility as the U.S. to work towards punishing Syria's use of chemical warfare, and their disregard for human rights. The U.S. shouldn't involve any of Syria's allies, unless they intervene themselves.
#APLangDiscussion#CCHSAPLang
@APSteinhauser The U.S. shouldn't accept Assad's regime, as not only has it abused humans and their natural rights, but its own people as well. Much greater military power should be mobilized to completely stop Assad or at least force him to share his government.
#APLangDiscussion#CCHSAPLang
@APSteinhauser Chemical warfare is seen as the worst because it causes damage in an exceedingly torturous way; chemical weapons tend to have devastating and persistent effects to the human body. They also maintain a long-lasting effect throughout a given radius.
#CCHSAPLang#APLangDiscussion
@Alex_Gaines123@APSteinhauser I wholly agree. The argument that teenagers have a tendency to make stupid decisions can be brought up, but it does not invalidate a teenager's ability to distinguish right from wrong. The consequence of a felony should always be plainfully obvious.
#APLangDisussion#CCHSAPLang
@jay_3615@APSteinhauser I would agree with you for smaller offenses, but I think that most children, even, demonstrate an understanding of "right" and "wrong" behavior, Any 17 year old should be able to see the consequence of rape, murder or other unforgivable felonies.
#CCHSAPLang#APLangDiscussion
@Nesert3@APSteinhauser I agree with you. Conversely, however, Ford was actually eager to call for the FBI to probe into her claims, and Kavanaugh repeatedly refused to agree so, brushing it off as an unnecessary step.
